Up And Down

Well, a full week into the Railriders season and it's been full of ups and downs. Still a long season and winning and losing streaks will happen. The pitching staff is going to be significantly different this week then last week as Johnny Barbato was traded today to the Pittsburgh Pirates and Dietrich Enns will be out for almost a month or longer with a shoulder injury. Right now, in my opinion, the Railriders 3 Stars of the Week.

3rd Star: Rob Refsnyder: This weekend alone, he had 2 doubles on Saturday, then an RBI triple to plate the Railriders' third run of the game.

2nd Star: Luis Cessa: Despite not having a great start on Saturday, he finished the week 1-1 with a 1.42 ERA and 11 strikeouts.

1st Star: Ruben Tejada: The week Ruben Tejada had proved he should be in the majors soon. He hit 3 doubles, a home run and drove in 5.

Now here's where and what the local pro players are doing right now (Note: this is as of April 17th)

Matt Wotherspoon (Crestwood): Wotherspoon has appeared in 2 games with Trenton, he's 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA and 3 strikeouts in 4 and 1/3 innings pitched.

Kyle McMyne (Old Forge): The Old Forge grad is 1-0 coming out of the bullpen for Triple-A Louisville. He's appeared in 5 games, striking out 3 in 8 and 1/3 innings.

Joe McCarthy (Scranton): He's had a difficult learning curve playing at Double-A Montgomery.  He's played in 9 games, hitting .179. Hit a double and drove in 4.

Cory Spangenberg (Abington Heights): Spangenberg has been .324 in 10 games for Triple-A El Paso. He's a double, a home run and drove in one.

Mike Papi (Tunkhannock): The Tunkhannock grad is in Double-A Akron. He's hit .320 in 9 games. He's driven in 4 runs.

Ray Black (Coughlin): Currently a free agent after being released by the Giants on April 4th.

Tony Hernandez (Hazleton Area): Currently in Yankees extended spring training

Max Kranick (Valley View): Currently in Pirates extended spring training

Chris Sweeney (Crestwood): Evanville's season has not yet started.
