The Crestwood Comets traveled to the Lehigh Valley Sunday afternoon to take on the Whitehall Zephyrs. Alex Bruneio was on the mound for Whitehall. James Graves started on the mound for Crestwood. After Bruneio got the first two outs, Graves singled then Colin Macko reached on an error, and Justin Darden loaded the bases. Anthony Kovalchik then hit a single to right to score Graves and Macko to make it 2-0 Crestwood. Bruneio would record a strikeout to get out of the top of the first. Like his Whitehall counterpart, Graves would get the first two outs but would get into some trouble. Matt Dobeck would walk then Bruneio got hit by a pitch, then Zach Gilbert would triple to right to score Dobeck and Bruneio to tie the game at 2. After a Zach Hamscher walk, Jake Lisicky would drive in Gilbert on a single to give Whitehall a 3-2 lead. Zach Snyder would follow by driving in Hamscher and Lisicky on a single to make it 5-2 Zepyhrs. Ryan Pavone would double to make it second and third but a fly out ended the inning. Steve Wegener would lead with an infield single but Bruneio would retire the next two to keep it a three run lead. Matt Trimmer came in to pitch for the Comets in the bottom of the 2nd. Trimmer would throw a 1-2-3 inning in the second inning. Bruneio would allow a two out double to Justin Darden but a strikeout ended the Comet threat. Trimmer would have another 1-2-3 inning in the third inning. Matt Taleroski would hit an infield single and Evan Knapp would walk, all with two outs but Bruneio would get another strikeout to end the inning. Snyder would lead off with a walk advancing to second on a Pavone bunt and he would be safe on an error. Helman would drive in Snyder on a groundout to make it 6-2. After a popout, Dobeck would score Pavone to make it 7-2, then Bruneio would hit a two run homer to right to make it 9-2 in favor of the Zephyrs. Gilbert would single and Colin Macko would come in to pitch for the Comets. Macko would get out of the inning with a groundout back to him. Bruneio would have a 1-2-3 5th inning for the Zephyrs. Pavone would draw a two out walk, but a fielder's choice got the Comets out of the inning. Eric Smith would come in to pitch for Whitehall. Kovalchik would have a lead off walk but would be out on a fielder's choice then after a fly out, Taleroski would draw a walk then Evan Knapp would single but a strikeout ended the sixth inning. Bruneio would hit a two out single but a groundout back to Macko ended the threat. Smith would throw a 1-2-3 7th inning to seal the game for the Zephyrs 9-2 over the Crestwood Comets. Alex Bruneio went 2 for 3 with a home run and also struck out 10 in 5 innings of work. Anthony Kovalchik would drive in 2 for the Comets.
Thoughts on the game: Alex Brunori had a great game. Both on the mound and at the plate. On the mound, he went 5 innings and struck out 10. At the plate, Bruneio hit a shot to right to make the game out of reach for the Comets. For the Comets, Anthony Kovalchik had a good game at the plate, driving in 2.
