The Railriders and Bats played their series finale on Thursday night at PNC Field. It was a rubber match as they split the first two and both were looking to take the series. Chad Green opposed Lisalverto Bonilla. Dilson Herrera reached on an error with one then Sebastian Elizalde singled to left but Clint Frazier would get Herrera out at third for the second out. A flyout ended the Top of the first. Frazier hit a one out double to left. Dustin Fowler reached on a fielder's choice but they had no one out. Rob Refsnyder would drive home Frazier with a double to center but Fowler would be out at home trying to score but the Railriders would lead 1-0. Mark Payton would hit a single to right to move Refsnyder to third but a groundout got the Bats out of the inning. Jesse Winker hit a leadoff single to left then Phillip Ervin followed with a single to right but Green would retire the next three batters via strikeout. Ruben Tejada led off by reaching on a error, then Cito Culver doubled to left to move Tejada to third. Tejada would score on a passed and Culver would score on a throwing error for a 3-0 Railriders lead. After a strikeout, Tyler Wade singled to right, but Bonilla got out of it with two strikeouts to end the inning. Juan Perez led off with a double to left, then Herrera reached on an error but Green got a popped up bunt and a double play to keep the Bats off the board. Mark Payton reached on an error with one out. Mason Williams then had a bunt single to move Payton to second. Payton would be thrown out at third trying to steal the base. Ruben Tejada drew a walk, then Cito Culver hit a three run homer to left center for a 6-0 Railriders lead. A groundout would end the inning. Brandon Dixon would draw a two out walk then Chad Wallach singled to right, moving Dixon to third. Tyler Goeddel would drive home Dixon on a single to center to get the Bats on the board. Juan Perez would walk to load the bases. Herrera would drive in Wallach and Goeddel on a single to left to cut the deficit in half 6-3. Elizalde would bring in Perez on a single to right to make it 6-4 Railirders. Joe Mantiply came in to pitch for the Railriders. Tony Renda brought in Herrera but the inning would end when Williams threw out Elizalde when trying to get to third and the inning would end and Louisville cut it to a 6-5 ballgame. Dustin Fowler would homer to right for a 7-5 lead. A flyout would end the inning. Mantiply would throw a 1-2-3 fifth for the Railriders. Payton led off with a ground rule double to center. Payton would move to third on a wild pitch then Ruben Tejada would hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Payton for a 8-5 advantage. Cito Culver would hit his second home run of the game with a shot to left for a 9-5 lead. Lucas Luetge came in pitch for Louisville. Eddy Rodriguez hit a single to left, would move to second on a wild pitch. Tyler Wade would drive home Rodriguez on a single to left for the 10-5 lead. A strikeout would end the inning. Mantiply threw another 1-2-3 inning in the sixth. Luetge threw a 1-2-3 sixth for the Bats. Tony Renda hit a two out single to right but a groundout would end the inning. Austin Brice came in for the seventh for the Bats. Mason Williams drew a leadoff walk then Ruben Tejada singled to left but a double play and a flyout ended the inning. Chasen Shreve came in to pitch the eighth for the Railriders and would strike out the side to keep the lead. Louis Coleman came in to pitch the eighth for the Bats. Tyler Wade drew a leadoff walk. After a strikeout and a forceout, Rob Refsnyder would get hit by a pitch but a strikeout ended the inning. Ben Heller came in to finish the game in the ninth for the Railriders. Herrera kept the game going with a two out single to right but a groundout ended the game as the Railriders took the 10-5 victory over Louisville.
Thoughts on the game: Cito Culver had a breakout game tonight, hitting two home runs. The team hit four doubles tonight. The Bats tried clawing right back into the game as they scored five runs in the fourth inning.
Up Next: The Railriders continue their homestand as they take on Indianapolis.
News: Donovan Solano was placed on the DL. Billy Fleming was called up from Double-A Trenton. Gary Sanchez according to Joe Girardi will be starting his rehab assignment next week.
