IronPigs shutout Railriders

After a victory on Opening Night, the Railriders looked to take their second in a row against the Ironpigs. Zach Eflin started on the mound for the IronPigs and the Railriders sent to the mound, Chad Green. The IronPigs led off the top of the first with Roman Quinn reaching on an error then stealing second on the next batter. Quinn would advance to third on a ground ball by Jorge Alfaro, then score on a single to right by Dylan Cozens to make it 1-0 IronPigs. A strikeout ended the Top of the first. Clint Frazier drew a one out walk then Dustin Fowler singled to left but Donovan Solano would ground out into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning. Green would throw a 1-2-3 second to keep it a one run game. Mark Payton led off with a single to center but Eflin would retire the next three to keep the Railriders off the board. Quinn hit a one out single to center and later advanced to second on a passed ball. After a strikeout, Jorge Alfaro then doubled home Quinn to make it 2-0 IronPigs. Dylan Cozens then drove home Alfaro for a 3-0 Lehigh Valley lead. After Rhys Hoskins drew a walk, Nick Williams would double to right and score Cozens and a 4-0 IronPigs lead. A strikeout would end the inning but not after the damage was done. Mason Williams drew a one out and Clint Frazier would single to center as Williams advanced to third but Quinn would throw out Frazier at second for the second out of the inning and a strikeout got the IronPigs out of the third inning. Jesmuel Valentin reached on an error with one out then Roman Quinn singled to left but a strikeout and a line out ended the Top of the fourth. Donovan Solano led off with a single then Mark Payton doubled to center that moved Solano to third. After a groundout and a strikeout, Cito Culver would draw a walk to load the bases but Wilkin Castillo would strike out on a foul tip to end the fourth. Rhys Hoskins singled to center but would be out at second on a Nick Williams fielder's choice. Williams stole second but Green would get Cameron Perkins to fly out to center to end the IronPigs' half of the inning. Eflin threw a 1-2-3 fifth to keep the shutout going. Jason Gurka came in to pitch for the Railriders. With one out, Jesmuel Valentin got hit by a pitch then Roman Quinn doubled to left and Valentin would score on a throwing error and moved Quinn to third to make it 5-0. JP Crawford then followed with a single to score Quinn and a 6-0 Lehigh Valley lead. Alfaro would single to left to move Crawford to second, but Gurka struck out Cozens and caused Hoskins to flyout to center. The switch pitcher Pat Venditte has come in to pitch for the IronPigs. Ruben Tejada drew a two walk but a groundout got Venditte out of the inning. After Gurka caused Nick Williams to ground out, he was replaced with JR Graham. Taylor Featherston hit a two out single but Graham would get Valentin to strike out looking for the third out. Venditte threw a 1-2-3 seventh to keep the IronPigs' shutout intact. Alfaro hit aa single with two outs then Graham got Cozens to strike out to end the top of the eighth. Hoby Miner entered the game to pitch for Lehigh Valley. Miner would retire the Railriders in order to get to the ninth holding a 6-0 lead. Giovanny Gallegos enters the game to pitch for the Railriders. He would issue a two out walk to Cameron Perkins but would get Featherston to strike out to get to the bottom of the ninth. Mark Payton and Ruben Tejada would each single and Ji-Man Choi got hit by a pitch to load the bases. Things looked like the Railriders could possibly get a rally going but Milner would strike out Culver and cause Castillo to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the game with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs taking the victory on Tuesday night 6-0.

Thoughts on the game: Roman Quinn had a heck of a game for Lehigh Valley, reaching base 4 times in the game and throwing out Frazier at second. After the Railriders shutout the IronPigs last night, the IronPigs returned the favor by shutting out the Railriders to tie the IronRail series 1-1.

News: Jordan Montgomery was announced this morning as the Yankees' fifth starter in the rotation. Montgomery was tonight's starter for the Railriders but instead was replaced by Chad Green, who was in the running for the fifth starting spot for the Yankees.

Up Next: The Railriders continue the four game set on Wednesday at 6:35. The Railriders send Brady Lail to the mound facing against the IronPigs Jason Thompson.
