Crestwood Rolls Past Dallas

The Comets came to the Back Mountain on Wednesday afternoon, looking for their sixth straight victory. The Mountaineers looked to get back on track after they fell to Valley West on Monday afternoon. Crestwood sent James Graves to the mound and the Mountaineers went to Josh Lydon. Brett Caladie led off the game with a double to left, moved to third on a wild pitch and would score on a passed ball with a 1-0 Comets lead. Colin Macko drew a walk. Macko would advance to second on a stolen base, then moved to third on a groundout. Justin Darden would drive home Macko with an RBI single for a 2-0 Crestwood lead. Darden would move to second on an errant pickoff, then scored on a wild pitch for the 3-0 advantage. A strikeout and a popout ended the top half of the first. Darren Kerdesky led off by drawing a walk. Following a flyout to left, Nick Kocher would double and Kerdesky moved to third. Mike Luksic would drive home Kerdesky with an RBI single to cut into the Comets lead 3-1. The threat would end when Graves got a 6-4-3 double play to end the first. Steve Wegener would draw a one out walk and Matt Taleroski would reach on an error. Brett Caladie would drive home courtesy runner Corey Chalk for the 4-1 lead. Macko would single to score Taleroski and a 5-1 advantage. James Graves singled to load the bases. Justin Darden would bring home Caladie on a sacrifice fly to right and the 6-1 Comets advantage. A fielder's choice ended the top of the second. Will McCrum would lead off with a walk, but Graves would retire the next three batters to keep the five run advantage. Curtis Tokach would lead off with a single, then Brandon Brozena followed with another single. Tokach would score on a passed ball for the 7-1 lead. Brozena would move to third. Wegener would reach on a fielder's choice when they got the out at the plate. Back-to-Back groundouts would get the Mountaineers out of the inning. Kocher would draw a two out walk but a fielder's choice ended the inning. Macko would draw a leadoff walk, moved to second on a stolen base, then Lydon got a double play and a strikeout ended the top of the fourth. Mike Collins would draw a leadoff walk and the Comets went to Matt Trimmer in relief. Trimmer got a flyout and a 6-3 double play to end the inning. Kerdesky came in to pitch the fifth for the Mountaineers. Curtis Tokach hit a one out single, moved to second on a groundout and moved to third on a passed ball. Wegener would draw a walk, but a popout ended the inning. Trimmer threw a 1-2-3 fifth for the Comets. Alex Kapral came in for the sixth for Dallas. Brett Caladie led off by reaching on an error, then Macko and Trimmer each drew walks to load the bases. Justin Darden would hit a sac fly to left to score Caladie for the 8-1 advantage. The Mountaineers would get an out at second when the Comets runner tried to go to second. A flyout and a strikeout ended the top of the sixth. JD Barrett would strikeout but reached when it was a wild pitch. Kocher would reach on an error. Luksic would drive home Kerdesky to make it 8-2. Collins would reach on a fielder's choice then a strikeout and a groundout ended the sixth. Justin Finarelli came in for the seventh for the Mountaineers. Tokach led off with his third hit of the game but Finarelli would get retire the next three batters to keep it 8-2. Connor Kaminski came in to pitch the seventh for the Comets. Matt Mathers and Kerdesky each hit one out singles but Kaminski would get a groundout and aa flyout to end the game as the Comets took their sixth straight victory over Dallas.

Thoughts on the game: Comets broke through today, scoring 8 runs today. Curtis Tokach had a great game at the plate, getting three hits. Justin Darden continued his hot season, driving in three and going 1 for 2 with two sacrifice flies. Mike Luksic was the star of the Mountaineers today, getting two hits and driving in two runs.
