Railriders shut down Indians

After taking two of three in Louisville, the Railriders traveled to Indianapolis for a weekend series with the Indians. Chad Green got the start for the Railriders and the Indians brought out Steven Brault. Brault started the top of the first with a 1-2-3 inning. Austin Meadows hit a two out single to right but a groundout got Green out of the inning. Brault threw a second consecutive 1-2-3 inning. Chris Bostick hit a one out single to center. Bostick would be forced out at second on a Danny Ortiz grounder to second. Ortiz would go to second on a single by Jason Rogers. Green would get Erich Weiss to strike out to end the second scoreless. Ruben Tejada led off the top of the third with a double to left. After Brault got back to back strikeouts, Tyler Wade would triple to center to score Tejada for a 1-0 Railriders lead. Brault would reduce the damage with a groundout. Austin Meadows would draw a two out walk but the inning would end when Meadows got caught stealing second. Dustin Fowler and Rob Refsnyder each led off with singles. Both would be advance one base on a wild pitch, but Brault would retire the next three batters to keep it a one run deficit. Bostick would double to left with two outs, but a groundout kept the Indians off the board. Cito Culver would single to left. After Eddy Rodriguez flew out to center, Tyler Wade would strike out looking and didn't like the call and was ejected for arguing balls and strikes. A groundout would end the top of the fifth. Ji-Man Choi entered to play first base for the Railriders and Cito Culver moved over to second from first. Green threw a 1-2-3 fifth to keep the one run lead. Rob Refsnyder drew a one out walk but Brault would strike out the next two batters. Green threw another 1-2-3 inning to keep the shutout going. Pat Light came in to pitch the seventh for Indianapolis. Light threw a 1-2-3 seventh to keep it a one run differential. Tyler Webb came in to pitch for the Railriders. Webb threw a 1-2-3 seventh to keep the lead. Dan Runzler came in to pitch the eighth for Indianapolis. Ji-Man Choi led off with a double to left, then Clint Frazier was hit by a pitch. Following a strikeout, Edgar Santana came in to pitch for the Indians. Santana would get the next two batters out to keep it 1-0. Giovanny Gallegos came in to pitch the eighth for the Railriders. Jason Rogers would lead off with a single to left and would be lifted for a pinch runner in Anderson Feliz. Erich Weiss would be out on batter interference. Max Moroff would single to right to get Feliz to third with one out. Gallegos would get Gift Ngoepe to strike out looking and Meadows to strike out swinging to end the eighth. Ruben Tejada would single to center with one out. Cito Culver would strike out and Tejada would be caught stealing for the strike em out throw em out double play for the third out. The Indians would get a chance to either force extras or win it outright. Gallegos would throw a 1-2-3 ninth for the save and the Railriders shutout the Indians 1-0.

Thoughts on the game: The pitching for the Railriders was spectacular tonight. In fact, both sides were great. Here's where I would talk about Tejada but I believe I've said enough that he belongs on a major league roster.

Up Next: The Railriders continue their three game series in Indianapolis. The Railriders is still to be announced and the Indians will go with Josh Lindblom.
