This week, there were some interesting games and a few upsets. Some teams proved they can play with the best of them and some have the flare for the dramatic. This week, the calendar moves to May and that means big games are looming and there is a big game looming in softball as soon as the calendar moves to May that features two undefeated teams in Nanticoke and Hazleton Area. This will be the only time these two will play each other as they play in different divisions and different classifications. Here's a few things that occurred this week
NANTICOKE UPSET VALLEY WEST
Nanticoke beat Valley West 5-4 on Friday. Trahjan Krupinski hit a game-deciding three run homer in the victory. They will play Berwick on Monday, Division 1 leading Crestwood on Tuesday and finish their week with Tunkhannock. I also will mention that they play a exhibition matchup at Hanover Area on Sunday at 2.
NANTICOKE TAKES A BIG DIVISION 2 MATCHUP
The baseball team wasn't the only team in Nanticoke with a big win on Friday, the Trojanettes' softball team took down Tunkhannock 6-5. The Trojanettes will travel to Hazleton Area on Monday in a matchup of division leaders and undefeated teams.
LAKELAND BASEBALL STAYS UNDEFEATED
Lakeland took down Mid Valley 2-0 and then escaped an upset loss to Western Wayne 6-5 to stay District 2's only unbeaten team remaining. Lakeland hosts Holy Cross on Monday and then travels to Dunmore on Thursday.
MID VALLEY SOFTBALL HANDS HOLY CROSS FIRST LOSS
Mid Valley took down Holy Cross on Thursday 6-3 to give the Crusaders their first loss of the season. Both are currently 6-1 and have played their two games against each other. The next time they would play would be if they both stay unbeaten the rest of the way. If that happens, they would play for a Division championship.
CRESTWOOD BASEBALL SWEEPS THE WEEK
Crestwood started off the week with a 2-1 victory over Tunkhannock on Monday. On Wednesday, they cruised to a victory over Dallas. Berwick on Friday was possibly the most interesting one. They were up 3-1 with two outs in the top of the seventh, Berwick tied on two bases loaded walks. In the bottom of the seventh with two outs, James Graves scored on a passed ball to give them the sweep of the week. However, big games will loom as the calendar goes to May. They travel to Nanticoke on Tuesday, hoping to avoid a trap game. Have the rest of the week off from divisional games.
HOLY REDEEMER BASEBALL DOMINATES THE WEEK
The Royals Wednesday through Friday dominated by outscoring their opponents 35-1. Beating Meyers 8-0 on Wednesday, MMI 14-1 on Thursday and Northwest 13-0 on Friday. It's looking like the Royals could be turning the table on their season.
