Sweet Seven For The Comets

The Crestwood Comets looked for their seventh straight victory as they hosted the Berwick Bulldogs at the Mountain Top American Legion's Veterans Field. Austin Horsefield got the start on the mound for Berwick. Curtis Tokach got the nod for the Comets. The Bulldogs looked to get back on track after two straight losses. Ian Kishbaugh would lead off with a single to left then Matt Champ followed with a single as well. Austin Horsefield drove in Kishbaugh for a 1-0 Bulldogs lead. Tokach would reduce the damage with a flyout and a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning. Colin Macko hit a one out single. Following a popout, Justin Darden would double to left and scored Macko from first to tie the game at 1. A groundout would end the inning. Tokach would throw a 1-2-3 frame in the second to keep the game tied at 1. Corey Chalk would draw a one out walk but would be thrown out at second trying to steal second on the next batter for the second out. Steve Wegener would single but a strikeout ended the inning. Tokach once threw a 1-2-3 inning in the third. Macko drew a one out walk but a groundout and a popout ended the inning. Henry Novicki hit a one out single. After a flyout, Kevin Tanribilir and Jeb Steward each drew walks to load the bases but an adventurous popout ended the Top of the fourth. Wyatt Kindler hit a one out single. After a strikeout, Steve Wegener would hit a triple to right that scored Kindler for a 2-1 Comet lead. A groundout would end the inning. Matt Trimmer came in to pitch the fifth for Comets and threw a 1-2-3 fifth to keep the one run lead. Brett Caladie would lead off with a walk. After a strikeout, James Graves would single but a groundout and a flyout ended the fifth. Bo Carruthers drew a two out walk but a groundout ended the inning. Pinch hitter Brandon Brozena hit an infield single with one out, would then steal second base and got to third on a throwing error. Brozena would score on a wild pitch for a 3-1 Comets lead. After a groundout, Mick Bafunno would get hit by a pitch. Will Morey would come in to pitch for the Bulldogs. Pinch hitter Jacob Morra would draw a walk but a flyout would end the inning. Mark Prebola would reach on an error with one out. Trimmer would get a strikeout on a foul tip. Matt Champ would keep the game alive with a single. Macko would come in to pitch for the Comets. Horsefield would draw a walk to load the bases. Jared Marshman would bring in Prebola on a bases loaded walk to make a 3-2 game. Henry Novicki would tie the game with a bases loaded walk. Connor Kaminski would come in to pitch for the Comets. Kaminski would get a strikeout to get out of the inning with a chance for the Comets to take the game in the seventh. James Graves led off with a single, he would steal second on the next batter. Mark Prebola came in to pitch for the Bulldogs. Prebola would get a strikeout, but Curtis Tokach would re-enter the game to hit and would single to center for a first and third with one out. The Bulldogs elected to intentionally walk Kindler to load the bases. Prebola would get another strikeout for the second out but with Steve Wegener batting with an 0-1 count, Wegener looked to check his swing but the ball went passed the catcher and Graves tried to score but the Bulldogs had a chance but Graves would beat out the throw as the Comets took their seventh straight victory 4-3 over Berwick.

Thoughts on the game: It was a great game on both sides. Berwick down 3-1, came back on their final out and ended up tying the game. Crestwood then in the seventh just came up big by scoring on a passed ball. The Comets have won their seventh straight game and sixth straight league game.
