The Railriders started the season by defending their Triple-A title in Buffalo after being rained out for two days. Jarrett Grube started on the mound for Buffalo. Johnny Barbato came to the mound for the Railriders. Grube would throw a 1-2-3 top of the 1st for Buffalo. Chris Coghlan would lead off the bottom of the first with a walk but Barbato would get the next 3 batters to end the inning. Mason Williams would hit a two out infield single. However, Solano would fly out to end the top half of the inning. Rowdy Tellez would hit a solo homer to left center to give the Bisons a 1-0 lead. Juan Graterol and Dwight Smith Jr would hit back to back singles with two outs but a popout to second would end the second. Ji-Man Choi would lead off with a single then Mark Payton doubled to center to make it second and third with no outs. A strikeout and a flyout to right to end the top of the third. Chris Coghlan led off the bottom of the 3rd with a walk. Barbato would retire the next three batters to keep it 1-0 Buffalo. Rob Refsnyder would hit a single to left but would be picked off at first and a lineout ended the top of the fourth. Rowdy Tellez hit his second home run of the game to right field to make it 2-0 Buffalo. Gregorio Petit would then single to center but the Railriders would turn a double play to end the 4th. Grube threw a 1-2-3 5th to keep the shutout intact. Jason Gurka came in to pitch for the Railriders. Dwight Smith Jr, Jason Leblebijian, and Chris Coghlan each singled to load the bases. Smith would score on a double play ball to make it 3-0 Buffalo. A groundout would end the threat in the 5th. Tyler Wade led off with an infield single, then Clint Frazier doubled to left and score Wade to cut the Bisons lead to 3-1. Leonel Campos entered the game to pitch for Buffalo. Campos got Fowler to fly out but got Frazier to third. Kyle Higashioka drove in Frazier with an RBI groundout to make it a 3-2 game. Rob Refsnyder walked, then Mason Williams singled to left and Solano followed with a walk to load the bsses with two outs. Ji-Man Choi would strike out to end the top of the 6th. With two outs, Giovanny Gallegos replaced Jason Gurka then retired Gregorio Petit on a strikeout. Chad Girodo entered the game to pitch for Buffalo and he would throw a 1-2-3 7th to keep it a one run ball game. Leblebijian drew a two out walk and advanced to second on a passed ball and then Coghlan would drive in Leblebijian to make it 4-2 Bisons. Jake Elmore would strike out swinging to end the 7th.With two outs, Danny Barnes came in to pitch for Buffalo and completed the 1-2-3 8th inning. Gallegos threw a 1-2-3 bottom of the 8th for the Railriders with the hopes of making a comeback to tie or take the lead in the ninth. However Danny Barnes would come in and throw a 1-2-3 9th to get the save and the Bisons would take their first game 4-2 over the Railriders
Thoughts on the game: The Railriders had their chances, especially when they had bases loaded with 2 outs and down 3-2 but couldn't get across another run. For Buffalo, Rowdy Tellez had a heck of a game, hitting 2 homers. After 2 days of rainouts, it probably was great for both teams to get on the field
Up Next: A Doubleheader at Buffalo starting at 12:35. Dietrich Enns starts Game 1 for the Railriders and Game 2's starter is still to be determined.
