The Rochester Red Wings had their home opener on Saturday rained out so they had their home opener on Sunday against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders. Jose Berrios got the start for Rochester's home opener while Anthony Swarzak got the start on the mound for the Railriders. Berrios would start with a 1-2-3 first inning. Buck Britton drew a one-out walk but a fly out and a ground ended the 1st. Slide Heathcott lead off the second with a single and scored when Gary Sanchez doubled the very next at-bat for a 1-0 Railriders lead. Chris Parmelee followed with a walk, then Cesar Puello drew a 1 out walk to load the bases but a strikeout and a line out ended the top half of the 2nd. Swarzak then threw another 1-2-3 inning in the second. Rob Refsnyder hit a one out single and Gary Sanchez got hit by a pitch with two outs but Chris Parmelee struck out to end the top of the third. Swarzak got into some trouble in the third inning, back-to-back singles by James Beresford and Wilfredo Tovar and a walk by Darin Mastroianni loaded the bases. Rochester would take the lead on a single by Buck Britton that would score Beresford and Tovar to take a 2-1 lead. Jorge Polanco followed with a single that deflected off Donovan Solano to score Mastroianni to make it 3-1. Buck Britton would out at second. A popup and a ground out ended the bottom of the 3rd. Cesar Puello got hit by a pitch with one out, but back-to-back strikeouts by Berrios kept the Railriders off the board. Nick Rumbelow came in to pitch in the bottom of the 4th for the Railriders. Adam Walker and John Hicks lead off the top of the 5th with back-to-back singles, but 2 flyouts and a popup ended the inning. Aaron Judge lead off the 5th with a walk and Heathcott drew a 1 out walk but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat. Tyler Webb came in to pitch for the Railriders. Jorge Polanco drew a 1 out but was erased when he was picked trying to steal second and then Kennys Vargas struck out to end the 5th. Alex Meyers came in to pitch for the Red Wings in the top of the 6th. Cesar Puello drew a one out but was caught stealing when John Hicks threw him attempting to steal second base. Pete Kozma drew a two-out walk and Gamel would ground out for the third out. Adam Walker would hit a one out single and Beresford drew a 2 out walk. Wilfredo Tovar would drive in Walker to make it 4-1 Red Wings. Webb would get a strikeout to end the inning. Meyer threw a 1-2-3 7th inning. Branden Pinder came in to pitch for the Railriders in the bottom of the 7th and throw a 1-2-3 7th as well. Gary Sanchez lead off with a single in the 8th, but Meyer would retire the next three. Adam Walker would hit a one out double but a strikeout and a popup ended the inning. Aaron Judge would attempt to create a rally in the top of the 9th with a 2 out single and steal 2nd on defensive indifference. Rob Refsnyder would then single to advance Judge to third but Slade Heathcott would strike out to end the game.
