Pittston Area at Crestwood Baseball

Pittston Area and Crestwood continued their rivalry on Friday afternoon in Mountain Top. The Comets were looking for  Colin Macko got the start on the mound and the Patriots countered with Chris Merithew. Colin Macko started the top of the first with a 1-2-3 inning. Chris Merithew would also have a 1-2-3 1st with a little help from his defense and himself. Justin Darden had a hard hit ball to third caught by Turonis and then for the final out of the inning, Merithew caught a liner non-chalantly for the out. Riley Brody led off the 2nd by getting hit by a pitch, would later advance on a passed ball and then advanced to third when Turonis reached on an error. Brody would later score on a wild pitch to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead. Two strikeouts and a fielder's choice would end the top of the 2nd. Colin Macko led off the top of the 2nd with a single, Taleroski came in to courtesy run and would advance to second on a stolen base. Tim Kindler drew a walk, then RJ Kresge sacrificed to the pitcher to move Taleroski and Kindler to 2nd and 3rd. Corey Chalk would draw a walk to load the bases. Jimmy Albee would hit a hard hit ball that was misplayed and Taleroski scored to tie the game at 1 and everyone ended up safe. Steve Wegener then followed with a single that scored Kindler to give the Comets a 2-1 lead. Derek Distasio then hit a sac fly to left to score Chalk and make it 3-1. Darden would then reach on an error and the error resulted in Albee and courtesy runner Mike Paranich to score and make it 5-1 after 2 innings. Joe DeLucca doubled to lead off the 3rd and would advance to third when O'Fier grounded out to second. DeLucca would score on an RBI double by CJ Pisack to cut Crestwood's lead to 5-2. Macko got into a jam later on in the inning. He would walk Brody and Merithew to load up the bases with 2 outs but Macko would answer with a strikeout to get out of it. Macko led off the inning with a single but courtesy runner Matt Taleroski would be caught stealing third for the first out of the 3rd. Tim Kindler would hit a ball to center but would end up being caught by a diving DeLucca for the second out. RJ Kresge would reach base by getting hit by a pitch, then advanced to 2nd on a passed ball, then Corey Chalk singled to score Kresge to make it 6-1 but Chalk would be out trying to advance to second. Jeff Donnora would lead off the top of the 4th with a bunt single and would advance to second and third on errant pick off throws and would score when Albert Zuba grounded out to second to cut the lead to 6-3. A groundout and a flyout ended the top half of the 4th. Derek Distasio hit a two-out single and Justin Darden drew a walk but a flyout to right ended the inning. CJ Pisack led off with a bloop single and would advance to second on a wild pitch and advance to third on a ground ball to second and score on an RBI groundout by Kyle Turonis to make it 6-4 A flyout ended the top half of the 5th. Alex McAndrew came in of relief of Merithew. Macko lead off with his third hit of the night, a double down the right field line, Tim Kindler drew a walk and then Kresge walked to lead the bases. Aidan Joplin entered to pitch for the Patriots. Jimmy Albee singled home Taleroski to make it 7-4 but a strikeout and a groundout ended the inning. Matt Trimmer relieved Colin Macko after 5 innings of work. Trimmer would give up a 2 out single to Albert Zuba but a groundout ended the top of the 6th. Brett Caladie would lead off by reaching on an error, then Graves hitting a single. Matt Trimmer would move over Caladie and Graves to second and third on a sacrifice bunt. Tim Kindler would end up grounding out but the first basemen ended up losing the ball and Caladie would score to make it 8-4. RJ Kresge then followed with a single to score Graves and a 9-4 lead, then Chalk doubled to left to make it 10-4 after 6. Trimmer threw a 1-2-3 7th inning to record the save and the Comets would win their 5th straight game.


Thoughts on the game: The bats keep on going for Crestwood this week. After only scoring 2 runs last week, they scored a total of 30 runs totals this week. Colin Macko overall had a great game, both at the plate and on the mound. On the mound, the sophomore went 5 innings and got the win. At the plate, he had 3 hits with a double. For Pittston Area, CJ Pisack had a good game at the plate, going 2 for 4 with an RBI double.
