SWB Railriders at Pawtucket

The Pawtucket Red Sox and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders played Monday night in Pawtucket. Brian Johnson was the starter for Pawtucket and Tyler Olson got the start for the Railriders. Ben Gamel started off the game with a single to center and ended up getting forced out on a fly out in center by Aaron Judge. Slade Heathcott singled with one out to right moving Judge to second, Heathcott would forced out at second on a ground ball to third. Donovan Solano singled home Judge for a 1-0 Railriders lead. Chris Parmelee popped out to end the top of the 1st. Christian Vazquez drew a walk with 2 outs but a strikeout ended the first. Pete Kozma drew a 2 out walk and then Gamel doubled on a line drive to center, advancing Kozma to third, but an strikeout ended the threat. Justin Maxwell led off the bottom of the 2nd with a single to left. However, a fly ball and two forceouts ended the inning. Donovan Solano hit a 2 out single to left but a fly out ended the threat. Josh Rutledge singled with one out but was forced out at second and Vazquez grounded out to end the inning. Johnson would throw a 1-2-3 4th inning. Justin Maxwell drew a one-out walk but a 4-6-3 double play ended the 4th. Roman Mendez came in for Pawtucket in the 5th. Ben Gamel led off with a triple, making him a home run of the cycle. Aaron Judge would then drive in Gamel on a double for a 2-0 Railriders lead. Aaron Judge would advance to third on the next batter on a wild pitch and Slade Heathcott fly out to right, scoring Judge for a 3-0 Railriders lead. Gary Sanchez would walk, moving Heathcott to second. Parmelee flew out to center, advancing Sanchez to third. Next batter, Cesar Puello hit a 3 run home run to right to make it a 6-0 lead. The home run was the first home run this season by the Railriders. Jonathan Diaz would ground out but the damage was done as they scored 5 runs in the inning. Vinnie Pestano came in to pitch for the Railriders. Chris Marrero led off the inning with a single to right, then Chris Dominguez doubled to left, moving Marrero to third. Pestano got a pop up and a strikeout for the 2 outs but Marco Hernandez singled to right, scoring Marrero and Dominguez to get the Paw Sox on the board and make it 6-2. Vazquez would strike out to end the 5th. Ben Gamel drew a one out walk, and would steal second but a strikeout and a ground out ended the top of the 6th. Diego Moreno came in to pitch for the Railriders. Sam Travis lead off the 6th with a single to center and would be erased on a 5-4-3 double play. Then a fly out ended the 6th. Anthony Varvaro enters the game to pitch for the Red Sox. Varvaro would throw a 1-2-3 7th inning. Moreno would follow with 1-2-3 inning as well. Varvaro would also have a 1-2-3 8th inning. Moreno then matched Varvaro with a 1-2-3 8th as well. Heath Hembree came in to pitch in the 9th for Pawtucket. Ben Gamel came to the plate leading off the top of the 9th, only needing a home run to complete the cycle, would ground out to second. Aaron Judge hit a one out single to right but a strikeout and a forceout ended the top of the 9th. Nick Goody entered to pitch for the Railriders. The Red Sox tried to create a rally when Sam Travis hit a solo shot to right to cut the Railriders' lead to 6-3. Maxwell would ground out and Deven Marrero would strike out for the two outs of the inning. Chris Marrero singled with two outs, but Chris Dominguez struck out to end the game and the Railriders would take the victory 6-3 in Pawtucket.
