This One Is For The Girls

Usually I don't have an article that is devoted to High School Softball. This time, no baseball involved, just Softball. This article will get into the tournaments in each classification and I will predict the District Champion. I'm not going to include Single-A as Forest City is the only team in the bracket.

6A

Hazleton Area looks like the favorite to take the first ever 6A Tournament. Erika Book is possibly the best pitcher in the tournament. I wouldn't leave out Williamsport or Delaware Valley who can give the Cougars a run. The Cougars have ace Erika Book and a group of freshman in Marissa Trivelpiece and Tiana Treon who have been excellent for the Cougars.

Prediction: Hazleton Area wins 6A

5A

This tournament is a subregional with District 11. Abington Heights and Wallenpaupack are the top two seeds in the tournament. The Comets' only losses were to Valley View and avenged that on Saturday afternoon by taking the Lackawanna League Division 1 crown. I wouldn't say that the other teams in District 2 can't win the tournament. Pittston Area made the District Finals last year and Valley West can make some noise as well. Wallenpaupack as the two seed could make it interesting.

Prediction: Abington Heights takes the District Title and the Subregional

4A

This bracket is basically Nanticoke's to lose but I'll admit they can be challenged. If you look at the possible District Finals, Nanticoke could face off against Tunkhannock who gave the Trojanettes fits this season and Valley View, who knocked off Abington Heights twice this season. Wouldn't leave out Wyoming Area or West Scranton to give them a run for their money.

Prediction: Nanticoke

3A

Last season, the Lady Royals were tested in the District Semis and Finals on their way to their second consecutive State Championship. In league play, they only gave up a run in the regular season finale to Meyers but that was all. This might be the most dominant team I've seen in softball. Can't say the road will be a cakewalk however. Mid Valley as the two seed, did almost beat the Royals in the District Final a season ago, only losing in extra innings.

Prediction: Holy Redeemer

2A

Holy Cross is the top seed. Followed by Elk Lake, Lackawanna Trail, Northwest, Wyoming Seminary, Riverside, Old Forge and Blue Ridge. Could be the most interesting bracket, with Northwest and Wyoming Seminary possibly giving them a contest in the semifinal. Elk Lake and Lackawanna Trail could be interesting as well.

Prediction: I'm going to go out on a limb and say Northwest.
