IronPigs muscles past Railriders

The Railriders traveled down the PA Turnpike to take on their rivals from Allentown, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. The Railriders welcomed Gary Sanchez who was on a rehab assignment from the Yankees as he was injured earlier this season. Mark Appel got the start on the mound for the IronPigs and the Railriders went with Chad Green. After a flyout, Gary Sanchez had his presence known early in the first inning as he would hit a home run to right for a 1-0 Railriders lead. A groundout and a strikeout would end the Top of the first. Cameron Perkins would lead off the bottom of the first with a single to right but Green would retire the next three batters to end the inning. Mason Williams hit a leadoff single to center. After a strikeout, Mark Payton would single to make first and second with one out. Cito Culver would follow with a homer to center for a 4-0 Railriders lead. After a flyout to right, Tyler Wade would single but Appel would strike out Sanchez to end the Top of the second. Rhys Hoskins and Nick Williams each drew walks to start the bottom half of the second. Williams would be out on a grounder to second, making it first and third for the IronPigs. Taylor Featherston would walk to load the bases with one out. Green would get a big strikeout for the second out. Perkins would bring home Hoskins on a bases loaded walk. JP Crawford would also walk with the bases loaded to cut the Railriders lead to 4-2. Green would get a strikeout to end the inning. Mason Williams and Ruben Tejada each would hit two out singles but a flyout ended the top of the third. Cozens and Hoskins each hit singles but Green would retire the next three batters to end the IronPigs threat and keep the 4-2 lead after three. Tyler Wade hit a two out single to right, then advanced to second on a wild pitch on the next batter. Sanchez would bring home Wade on an RBI double to make it 5-2 Railriders. Dustin Fowler then followed with a single that scored Sanchez for the 6-2 advantage. A strikeout would end the inning. Green would throw a 1-2-3 fourth for the Railriders. Colton Murray came in to pitch the fifth for the IronPigs and threw a 1-2-3 frame. Jorge Alfaro hit a leadoff single to right to start the fifth, then Cozens followed with a single to right to make it first and second with no outs. Hoskins then hit a three run homer to right to cut the Railriders lead to 6-5. After a flyout and a lineout, Taylor Featherston hit a single to center, but a popout got the Railriders out of the inning still holding the one run lead. Billy Fleming would leadoff with his first Triple-A home run which was to left field for a 7-5 Railriders lead. Tyler Wade then hit a bunt single. After a strikeout, Wade would steal his ninth base of the season. Dustin Fowler would draw a walk but Murray would get back-to-back strikeouts to keep a two run deficit. Joe Mantiply came in to pitch the sixth for the Railriders. Cameron Perkins led off with a home run to right to make it 7-6. After a flyout, Jorge Alfaro hit a single, then Cozens hit an RBI triple to right to score Alfaro to tie the game at seven. After a foul tip strikeout, Featherston would bring home Cozens and Hoskins to make it 9-7 Ironpigs on an 2 RBI Double but Williams would be out at the plate trying to score. Michael Mariot came in to pitch the seventh for the IronPigs and would strike out the side to keep the two run lead as they headed to the seventh inning stretch. Tyler Jones came in to pitch the seventh for the Railriders. Logan Moore and Cameron Perkins started off the bottom of the seventh with singles, then JP Crawford moved them over on a sacrifice bunt. Alfaro drove home Moore on an RBI single to make it 10-7 IronPigs, Cozens would move to third. Cozens would bring home Perkins on a sacrifice fly to left to make it 11-7 IronPigs. A flyout would end the inning. Hoby Milner would enter the game in the eighth for the IronPigs. Pinch hitter Eddy Rodriguez hit a ground rule double to center but a grounder would end the top of the eighth. Rodriguez stayed in as the catcher and Jason Gurka came in to pitch the eighth for the Railriders. Featherson drew a two out walk but a strikeout would end the eighth. Hoby Milner stayed in to pitch for the IronPigs. Milner would get Frazier to line out to center for the first. Then he got Williams to strike out looking for the second out. Finally, he got Ruben Tejada to fly out to right to give the IronPigs an 11-7 victory over the Railriders.

Thoughts on the game: A really high scoring affair tonight in the Lehigh Valley. The IronPigs had 4 extra base hits, two were home runs, one was a triple that tied the game and the double gave the IronPigs the lead for good. Three different players had three hits for the IronPigs. For the Railriders, Gary Sanchez started his rehab assignment and started off his assignment, looking like he was in midseason form, going 2 for 4 with two runs scored, a double, a home run and two RBIs.
