The Baseball Bracket Breakdown

Well here we are, the District 2 Baseball Playoffs are here. Now in this one, I'll be dissecting the brackets in every classification with the exception of the A bracket because that's a subregional and it's not out yet and I will hold off on 6A as that doesn't start until Monday. Well with that being said, here is the breakdown of the brackets.

2A Bracket: Blue Ridge is the top seed in this classification and they won a Single-A title in 2015. Don't sleep on Northwest, who won the 2A title last season. Can't say it's one of the strongest fields but it will be interesting.

Upset Pick: Northwest over Old Forge. Northwest got a bit of experience from last season. They also had to play tough teams in Meyers, Hanover Area and Holy Redeemer.

Other Quarterfinal Predictions:

Holy Cross over Lackawanna Trail

Elk Lake over Mt View

3A Bracket: Lakeland this year looks like the cream of the crop in 3A. Going undefeated and looking for another District Title. The most interesting thing is that unlike the other classifications is that the District Runner-Up's season won't be over as they will advance to the State Tournament as well. Meyers is on the other side of the bracket but will be testing the waters as they could possibly end up with a rematch with Hanover Area. 

Upset Pick: Hanover Area over Meyers. The Hawkeyes have been great during the postseason. The saying can be true here, it's tough to beat a team three times, especially in baseball

3A Quarterfinal Picks

Riverside over Montrose

Dunmore over Carbondale

Lake-Lehman over Wyoming Seminary

Hanover Area over GAR

4A Bracket: Probably one of two brackets that are kinda hard to crack. I wouldn't be surprised (with the exception of Honesdale/Valley View) with whoever won any of the matchups.

Upset Pick: Nanticoke over Dallas. Don't let Nanticoke's record deceive you, they can be a dangerous team. Of their three wins, they beat Valley West, Division 1 Champion Crestwood and Dallas.

Valley View over Honesdale

Berwick over Scranton Prep

Wyoming Area over Tunkhannock

5A Bracket: This is possibly one of the toughest brackets in all the classifications. All things considered, I wouldn't be surprised who wins the title. A rare treat that can only happen this year is that two District Champions from last season are in the bracket and can possibly play each other in the semifinals. Wallenpaupack gets the only bye in the 5A bracket and they will play the winner of the Pittston Area/Coughlin game. In other games, North Pocono takes on Crestwood and Abington Heights travels to Valley West. 

Upset Pick: North Pocono over Crestwood. North Pocono won a 3A title last season and will have their best pitcher on the mound who helped them get to the State semifinals last season. Crestwood lost four in a row after winning seven in a row, but received a forfeit win and beat Lake-Lehman in a non-league game.

Pittston Area over Coughlin

Valley West over Abington Heights.
