The Railriders came back home to PNC Field as they welcomed the Syracuse Chiefs for a three game series this weekend. Kyle McGowin got the start for Syracuse and the Railriders went to Caleb Smith. Smith would throw a 1-2-3 inning to start off the game for the Railriders. Clint Frazier hit a two out single but a strikeout would end the inning keeping the game scoreless. Clint Robinson would be by a pitch with one out but a strikeout and a forceout would end the Top of the second. Cito Culver would draw a two out walk and Mark Payton would single to right, moving Culver to third but a strikeout would end the inning. Adrian Sanchez hit a one out single then Andrew Stevenson followed with a single to right, moving Sanchez to third. Brian Goodwin would bring in Sanchez on a double for a 1-0 Syracuse lead. Matt Skole would bring home Goodwin on an RBI sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead. A popout would end the Top of the third. Dustin Fowler would hit a one out triple to center. Frazier would bring home Fowler on a Sacrifice fly RBI to cut the Chiefs lead to 2-1. Ji-Man Choi would hit a single to right, but a groundout would end the inning. Smith threw a 1-2-3 third inning for the Railriders. Mason Williams would hit a leadoff single to center, then Cito Culver would tie the game on a double to left to score Williams. The Railriders would take a 3-2 lead on a Mark Payton double to center that scored Culver. Wilkin Castillo would draw a walk. After back-to-back flyouts. Clint Frazier would draw a walk to load the bases. The Chiefs went to Dustin Antolin in relief. Choi would double to left to empty the bases to make it 6-2 Railriders. A flyout would end the inning. Smith threw a second consecutive 1-2-3 inning for the Railriders. Antonlin threw a 1-2-3 inning for Syracuse. Tyler Wade would hit a single to left, followed by a Fowler single to center, then Clint Frazier would draw a walk to load the bases. Choi would bring home Wade on a sacrifice fly to left and the throw went to no one and went into a dugout to score Fowler and move Frazier to third and it's 8-2 Railriders. A flyout would end the inning. Ben Heller came in to pitch for the Railriders. Pedro Severino would draw a one out walk, then Grant Green singled to center, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the Syracuse threat. Neal Cotts came in to pitch for Syracuse. Mark Payton would hit a home run to left to make it 9-2 Railriders. A groundout would end the seventh. After Heller got the first two outs of the eighth, Jason Gurka came in to pitch for the Railriders. Gurka would get a groundout to end the top of the eighth. Trevor Gott came in to pitch for Syracuse. Tyler Wade led off with a double to left. After a strikeout, Clint Frazier brought home Wade on an RBI single to make it 10-2. Frazier moved to second on a throwing error. Ji-Man Choi then followed with a walk but a groundout ended the eighth. Ernesto Frieri came in to pitch for the Railriders and threw a 1-2-3 inning to give the Railriders a 10-2 victory over Syracuse.
Thoughts on the game: A big fourth inning turned the tides for the Railriders. They scored five runs in that inning, then kept going and eventually scored ten on the game. The game was highlighted by Mark Payton's first AAA Home Run. Caleb Smith also had a great game on the mound, getting the win and striking out seven.
