After an up and down April, the Railriders did start off May with a loss, but went 3-2 on the week and are only a game out of first place. They had their first sweep of the season (although cut short by the rainout on Sunday). They also had a bunch of standout performances from several players. Without further ado, here are the three stars of the week from this past week:
Third Star: Caleb Smith: He had a great start against Syracuse on Friday, went six innings, struck out seven without walking a batter. Gave up three hits and allowed two runs.
Second Star: Clint Frazier: Frazier has finally adjusted to Triple-A pitching and has been flourishing. This past week, he had 9 hits, 4 of them being doubles, one of them a home run and he drove in six.
First Star: Cito Culver: Culver has definitely had a standout two weeks. This past week, he only had 4 hits but one of them was a double, and he had three home runs while driving in seven.
Now here are what the local pro players are doing currently and where they are.
Matt Wotherspoon (Crestwood): Wotherspoon is currently at Double-A Trenton. He's appeared in eight games. He's 2-1 with a 1.46 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 12 and 1/3 innings pitched.
Cory Spangenberg (Abington Heights): He is currently playing on the San Diego Padres. He's appeared in 11 games. He's hitting .282 with 2 doubles and two RBIs.
Kyle McMyne (Old Forge): Currently playing for Triple-A Louisville. He's appeared in 12 games. McMyne is 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA. He has 10 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched.
Joe McCarthy (Scranton): Currently at Double-A Montgomery. He's hitting .316 with nine doubles, a triple, a home run and 12 RBIs. He's also stolen 2 bases.
Mike Papi (Tunkhannock): Currently at Double-A Akron. He's hitting .293 with two doubles, three home runs and 12 RBIs.
