Cougars take down Coughlin

Coughlin still alive for the WVC Division 1 Championship faced off against the Cougars of Hazleton Area on Senior Day at Hilldale Park. Jacob Lupas got the start for the Crusaders and the Cougars went to Brady Antolick. Lupas started off with a 1-2-3 top of the first as the Crusaders came up to bat. Chase Nowak hit a two out infield single but a strikeout ended the inning keeping the game scoreless. Frank DeGaetano hit a two out single but he would be picked off trying to go to second for the third out. Antolick would throw a 1-2-3 second to keep the game scoreless after two. Ryan Pietrzyk would lead off by reaching on an error. He would reach second on a Brian Harry sacrifice bunt, then Alex Amentler would bring him home on an RBI single to make it 1-0 Hazleton Area. A groundout would end the inning. Taylor Chronowski led off with an infield single, then Darryn Marek used a sacrifice bunt to move Chronowski to second. Eric Christian followed with a walk, then TJ Wozniak singled to load the bases. After an infield fly, Leroy Fettig would get hit by a pitch to tie the game at 1. A strikeout would get the Cougars out of the inning tied. Alex Klein would hit a two out single but a grounder back to Lupas would end the Cougars half of inning. George Oko got hit by a pitch with one out. After a flyout, Marek drew a walk but a popout to first ended the fourth still tied. Lupas would throw a 1-2-3 fifth for the Crusaders. Antolick would throw a 1-2-3 frame of his own to keep the game tied. Chris Heim would draw a walk with one out, then Livan Reinoso hit a single up the middle to move Heim to second. Dayan Reinoso then brought home Heim on an RBI single for a 2-1 Cougars lead. A flyout and a popout would end the Top of the sixth inning. Jacob Lupas would hit a one out single, but back-to-back flyouts would end the inning. Chase Nowak came in to pitch the seventh for the Crusaders. Ryan Pietrzyk hit a leadoff single and would be lifted for a pinch runner in Christian Shoemaker. Brian Harry used another sacrifice bunt to move Shoemaker to second, then James Vozar hit a single that moved Shoemaker to third. After a strikeout, Heim brought home Shoemaker on an RBI single for a 3-1 Cougar lead. Lavan Reinoso then drove home Vozar on another RBI single for a 4-1 lead. A flyout would end the inning. Colin Stauffer would come in for the save for the Cougars. Marek would hit a fly ball to right but Livan Reinoso made a running catch for the first out. A groundout to second and a groundout to third to give the Cougars a 4-1 victory over Coughlin. 

Thoughts on the game: It was a very close game for six innings til the Cougars broke the game open with two runs in the seventh. Brady Antolick pitched a great game for the Cougars, striking out 6 and giving up 3 hits. With the Coughlin loss, Crestwood takes the WVC Division 1 Championship.
