Royals pull away in second half for victory over Northwest
The Holy Redeemer Royals hosted the Northwest Rangers on Tuesday night in their final home game of the season. The Royals can be the three seed in the District 2 3A Tournament with two more wins. Northwest is looking to seal up the number 3 seed in the District 2 2A tournament. Who would come out on top in this Division 3 matchup? Let's get to it!
The Rangers started the game by scoring the game's first five points on a three pointer by Jaxson Yaple and a pair of free throws by Sam Saxe. The Royals would go on a 6-0 run and take a 6-5 lead. However, the Rangers would take the lead once again on a basket by Bryce Koser. The game would be tied at 9 with the end of the first quarter and just before the buzzer, Collin Cook would hit a three to take a 12-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. Northwest would keep it close throughout the quarter and would tie the game several times. The Royals would lead by one and Joey Judge would get a steal and lay it in and would steal another pass but would miss and Collin Cook would get the putback for a 26-21 lead at halftime.
The Royals would take over in the third quarter by going on a 13-0 run and would make their lead 51-28 at the end of three. The defense would hold the Rangers to seven points in the quarter. The Royals would cruise for a 66-47 victory over Northwest.
Thoughts on the game: Northwest really made it a good fight in the first half. I was impressed by several players such as Jaxson Yaple, Bryce Koser and Sam Saxe who each scored double digits. For Holy Redeemer, Derek Answini was impressive coming off the bench, scoring 13. JD Turosky did a good job inside the paint. I think Northwest can be a really interesting Wild Card in the District Playoffs and the Royals can be an interesting team in 3A.
