A Championship and a Milestone as Crestwood takes down Valley West



The Valley West Lady Spartans traveled to Mountain Top to take on the Crestwood Lady Comets. It was senior night for the Crestwood and it could be something special. With a win and a Hazleton Area loss, the Lady Comets would take the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 Championship. Crestwood senior Julia Makowski is 13 points away from 1,000 career points. Who would come out on top in this WVC Division 1 matchup? Let's find out!
 Crestwood would start the game by scoring the first four points. However, the Spartans would go on a 5-0 run to take a 5-4 lead. The lead would be short lived as Bella Termini and Makowski hit a free throw each and Sara Hopkins would hit back-to-back three pointers for a 12-5 lead and would take a 15-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Spartans would cut the lead to 15-13 with a three pointer by Lindsey Gruver. However, the Comets would increase their lead to seven with a 5-0 run. Makowski would score six points in the quarter to only need one point as the Comets lead 29-21.
 At 7:35 remaining in the third quarter, Julia Makowski grabbed an offensive rebound and made it for her 1,000th point of her career. The Lady Comets defense held the Lady Spartans to four points as they led 41-25 at the end of three. Crestwood would cruise in the fourth to take a 51-28 victory over Valley West. With Pittston Area's victory over Hazleton Area, the Crestwood Lady Comets would take the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 Championship.

Thoughts on the game: Well, the defense was great in the second half for the Lady Comets. They held the Spartans to seven points in the second half. Julia Makowski had an excellent game, scoring 25 and getting 1,000 points in the process. For the Spartans, Toni Amato had a really good game, making some impressive three point shots.
