Royals big third quarter propels them in victory over Montrose


The Holy Redeemer Royals and Montrose Meteors traveled to Wyoming Area in a District 2 3A Quarterfinal matchup. The Royals come in as the number 2 seed and the Meteors are the number 7 seed. The Royals come in as reigning District Champions and hoping to repeat. Montrose are coming in hoping for the upset of Holy Redeemer. Who would come out on top in this District playoff matchup? Let's find out!
 The Royals would start off the game by scoring the first seven points with a pair of three pointers by Collin Cook and a free throw by Joey Judge. JD Turosky would add six points in the quarter and the Royals would lead 19-9 at the end of one. The Meteors would go on a quick 6-0 run to start the quarter with back-to-back baskets by Jacob Peck and a basket by Andrew Rapisardi to cut the lead to 19-15. The Royals would increase the lead to eight with back-to-back baskets by Cook and Turosky. However, Montrose would answer each time with back-to-back baskets and would only trail 29-26 at halftime.
 Montrose would start off the quarter with a basket by Rapisardi to cut the Royals lead to one point. However, after that, the Royals would start to take over. Joey Judge would make a three point play and the Meteors' Evan Snyder would get a basket to cut the lead to two but another three point play, this time by Collin Cook would start helping the Royals pull away. The Royals would hold Montrose to eight points that quarter and they would put 25 to lead 53-36 at the end of the third quarter. They would cruise in the fourth quarter to take a 64-49 victory over Montrose to advance to the District 2 3A Semifinals.

Thoughts on the game: The Royals' Collin Cook had a fantastic game, scoring a game-high 24 points. Several players made great contributions, such as JD Turosky, who had 12 points and did a good job on the boards. Joey Judge also played well, scoring 12 points. For the Meteors, Andrew Rapsardi had a really good game with 17 points.
