The New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles battled for the Vince Lombardi Trophy in the 52nd edition of the Super Bowl. The Eagles are looking for their first Super Bowl meanwhile the Patriots are looking for back-to-back Super Bowls and their sixth Super Bowl to tie the Pittsburgh Steelers. Who would come out on top in the final football game of the season? Let's get to it!
The Eagles would start with the ball and would face a third and 4 at their own 32 yard line and Nick Foles would find Alshon Jeffrey for 17 to their own 49 yard line. On third and 12, Foles would find Torrey Smith for 15 to the Patriots 38 yard line. The Eagles would drive all the way for a Jake Elliott field goal for an early 3-0 lead. The Patriots would go on a nine play drive that would tie the game at three on a 26 yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski. The Eagles would go on a quick three play drive ending with Foles going to Jeffrey for a 34 yard touchdown but they would miss the extra point for 9-3 Philadelphia lead. The Patriots would go on an eight play drive ending with a missed field goal in which the snap was bobbled and Gostkowski was rushed to get it off and it hit the left upright no good early in the second quarter. The Eagles would go three and out on their next drive. The Patriots would start off the drive right with Tom Brady going to Brandin Cooks for 23 to the Eagles 40 yard line. However he would be injured on the play and would be out for the reminder of the game. The Patriots tried some trickery on third and 5 as James White would pitch the ball to Amendola who would throw to a wide open Brady who would drop it. They would go for it on fourth down and Brady would go to Rob Gronkowski but the pass would fall incomplete and the Eagles would take over. The Eagles would capitalize with a six play drive ending with a 21 yard touchdown run by LeGarette Blount. They would go for two and would not convert and it would be 15-3 in favor of the Eagles. The Patriots would get a big play on their first play of the drive with Brady going to Rex Burkhead for 46 to the Eagles 29 yard line. However, the Patriots would settle for a 45 yard field goal by Gostkowski to cut the lead to 15-6. On the next Eagles possession, they would face a third and 4, Jay Ajayi would go for 26 to the New England 43 yard line. Next play, Foles would go to Jeffrey who would bobble the ball up and it would be intercepted by Duron Harmon at their own two yard line and returned to the ten yard line of New England. They would face a third and 6 and the pass would fall incomplete but the Eagles would get called for holding and would keep the drive alive. Dion Lewis would go for seven yards on second and 5. On second and 10 at their own 31 yard line, Brady would find Chris Hogan for 43 yards to the Eagles 26 yard line. Very next play, James White would go 26 yards for a touchdown. They would miss the extra point and it would be 15-12 in favor of Philadelphia. The Eagles would face a third and 3 at their own 37 yard line and Foles would find Corey Clement for 55 yards to the Patriots eight yard line. They would face a fourth and goal and they would attempt wildcat where Clement would pitch the ball to Trey Burton who threw to ball to Foles for a one yard touchdown to make it 22-12 in favor of the Eagles as we headed to halftime.
The Patriots would start with the ball in the second half and would go on an eight play drive ending with Brady going to Gronkowski for a five yard touchdown to cut the Eagles lead to 22-19. The Eagles would answer though with an eleven play drive ending with Foles finding Clement for a 22 yard touchdown to make it 29-19 midway through the third quarter. The Patriots wouldn't stay down however as they went on a seven play drive and scored on touchdown pass from Brady to Chris Hogan for a 26 yard touchdown to make it a three point lead again. Early in the fourth quarter, the Eagles would get a 42 yard field goal by Elliott to make it a 32-29 lead. The Patriots would get the ball and Burkhead would get nine yards on second and 5. New England would face a third and 3 as Brady would find Danny Amendola for seven yards to the Eagles 47 yard line. Brady would find Amendola for 30 yards to the 17 yard line. Then on second and 1, White would get four yards for a first and goal at the four yard line. On second and goal at the four, Brady would find Gronkowski for their second score of the game and a 33-32 New England lead, their first lead of the game. The Eagles would take over at their own 25. The Eagles would face a third and 6 and Foles would find Ertz for seven yards. The Eagles would face a fourth and 1 at their own 45 yard line and Foles would find Ertz once again for two yards. On second and 9, Foles would find Nelson Agholor for 10 yards to the Patriots 42 yard line. Next play, Foles would find Agholor for 18 to the 24 yard line. Foles would find Agholor once again for 10 yards to the 14 yard line. The Eagles would face a third and 7 at the 11 yard line and Foles would find Ertz once again and this time, it would be an 11 yard touchdown pass for a 38-33 Eagles lead with 2:21 to go. The Patriots would take over and on second and 8, Brady would get sacked by Brandon Graham, would force the fumble and Derek Barnett would recover at the Patriots 31 yard line. The Eagles would get a 46 yard field goal by Elliott to make it a 41-33 lead with 1:10 to go. The Patriots would need to go 91 yards and get a two-point conversion to tie the game. The Patriots would face a foruth and 10 at the nine yard line with 42 seconds to go and Brady would find Amendola for 13 to the 22 yard line. On second and 10, Brady would find Gronkowski for 16 to the Patriots 49 yard line. Final play of the game with nine seconds to go, on second and 10, Brady would throw the ball deep to the end zone and the pass would be tipped and looked like it might have been caught but the pass would fall to the ground incomplete and the Eagles would win their first Super Bowl with a 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots. Eagles QB Nick Foles would be named Super Bowl MVP.
