Big Shot Propels Nanticoke over Meyers

The Meyers Mohawks and Nanticoke Trojans traveled to Wyoming Area on Wednesday night for the District 2 4A Quarterfinal matchup. Both teams played for third place last year with the Trojans coming out on top. The Trojans are hoping to replicate their state playoff run from a year ago. The Mohawks are coming in looking for the upset and avenge a loss earlier in the month to Nanticoke. Nanticoke comes in as the WVC Division 2 Champion and the number two seed. Meyers comes in as the seven seed. Who would come out in this District 2 playoff game? Let's find out!
With the game tied at three, Jake Krupinski would hit a three pointer to make it 6-3 but Kendall Brewster would score five straight points but Krupinski would hit another three pointer to make it 9-8 Trojans. Najese Hood's basket would make 10-9 as we head to the end of the first quarter. Kendall Brewster would start the quarter with a three pointer to make it 13-9 but back-to-back buckets by Colby Butczynski and Nate Kreitzer tied the game up at 13. Meyers would answer with Jawane Buckner and Hood hitting back-to-back shots for a four point lead. Kreitzer would hit a three pointer but Meyers would get the ball inside for another basket. The Trojans would get a pair of Butczynski free throws as they trailed 19-18 at halftime.
Hood would start the quarter with a bucket to increase the lead to three but the Trojans would go on an 8-0 run for a 26-21 lead. The Mohawks would tie the game at 26, then Kreitzer would get a basket for a 28-26 lead. Next possession, Cole Walker would tie it with a basket of his own. Freshman Luke Myers would give Nanticoke the lead once again with a pair of free throws but with under a minute to play Kendall Brewster would hit a three pointer for a 31-30 lead as we head to the fourth quarter. Butczynski would get a layup for a 32-31 lead but Walker would hit a three pointer to give the Mohawks the lead right back. Buckner would start taking over as he would score the next five Meyers points and a 39-34 lead. The Trojans would keep fighting as they went on a 6-0 run and a 40-39 lead. Buckner would make a pair of free throws for a 41-40 lead. Next Trojans possession, Kreitzer would hit a three for a 43-41 but on the Meyers possession, Buckner would hit a clutch three for a 44-43 lead and then scored again for a 46-43 lead. With the Mohawks leading by four, Kreitzer would get fouled on a three pointer and would sink all three foul shots to cut the lead to one. The Trojans would get a stop and Jake Krupinski would go for the three and would hit for a 50-48 lead with 10 seconds to go. The Trojans would foul but were only in the 1 and 1 range. The Mohawks would go to the line with 2.5 seconds and miss the foul shot but Meyers would get the offensive rebound and got the shot off but would come up short as the Trojans advanced to the District Semifinals for the second straight year with a victory over Meyers.

Thoughts on the game: It was a really good game. It honestly could have went either way. Jake Krupinski's game-winning three pointer was impressive and he also had a really good game. You honestly forget at times that he is only a freshman. Nate Kreitzer also had a great game with 21 points. For the Mohawks, I thought they played a very good game. Juwane Buckner had a great game with 18 points as did Kendall Brewster who had 15 points.
