Pittston Area survives to get past West Scranton
The Pittston Area Lady Patriots and the West Scranton Lady Invaders traveled to Wyoming Area High School to play their District 2 5A Quaterfinal matchup. Pittston Area comes in as the four seed. West Scranton comes in the number five seed. Who would come out on top in this four/five matchup? Let's find out!
After the Invaders scored the first basket of the game, Pittston Area would go on a 7-0 run and would take a 9-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Patriots would continue to increase their lead as Alexa Noone hit back-to-back three pointers and the defense would only allow one basket during the quarter to lead 19-8 at halftime.
In the third quarter, West Scranton to get back into the game but the Lady Patriots' Leah Hodick would score six points during the quarter for a 25-14 lead at the end of the third. The Patriots would get a three point play by Hodick to increase the lead to 14 but the Invaders would try and make a comeback. The Invaders would go on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to six. Noone would hit a pair of free throws to make it eight but Tatum Rephis would hit a three to cut the lead to five but that was all the Invaders would muster and Pittston Area would advance to the District semifinals with a 31-25 victory over West Scranton.
Thoughts on the game: Pittston Area looked really good. The lead they built up during the game proved big when the Invaders started going on a run in the fourth quarter. Alexa Noone had a really good game with 13 points as did Leah Hodick with 12. For West Scranton, I was impressed with Tatum Rephis, who made some big threes during the fourth quarter. She ended the night with 11 points.
