Lady Comets take rematch with Dallas
The Crestwood Lady Comets hosted their pink out game as they played the Dallas Lady Mountaineers. Crestwood is one game out of first place and has a rematch with Hazleton Area on Thursday. Dallas is looking for a sweep of the Lady Comets after beating them at home in January. Who would come out on top in this Division 1 rematch? Let's hop to the game!
The Mountaineers started the game by scoring the first two baskets of the game. However, the Comets would tie the game up with two straight of their own. The Mountaineers would eventually take a 9-5 lead midway through the first quarter but the Crestwood would go on a 6-0 run to lead 11-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Mountaineers' Morgan MacNeely would come off the bench and tie the game early in the quarter. After a basket and free throw by the Comets made the lead 14-11. MacNeely would strike again with four straight points and a 15-14 Mountaineer lead. However, an outlet pass would go to Julia Makowski and she would lay it up and in to give the Comets the lead once again at 16-15. A Helena Jardine free throw would increase the lead to 17-15 but Dallas would tie the game up with a basket by Emily Weiland. After Jardine made a basket and after a scoreless Dallas possession, Mountaineers guard Kendra Saba would get a steal and layup to tie the game. After that, Crestwood would go on a 7-0 run highlighted by when a Crestwood shot was missed, Andrea Shipton would keep a loose rebound from going out of the bounds which would go to Julia Makowski who would make the basket and the Comets would lead at halftime 26-19.
The Mountaineers would get the first basket of the second half to cut the lead to five but Makowski would score the next five Comet points to increase their lead to ten. Dallas would only to be able to cut the lead to seven until the Comets got two free throws from Bella Termini and a three pointer by Riley Magin. A Morgan MacNeely basket would keep the Comets at 38-28 at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Comets would cruise in the fourth quarter for a 49-33 victory at home over the Dallas Lady Mountaineers. Julia Makowski had 17 points to lead all scorers, Sara Hopkins added seven points for Crestwood. For Dallas, Morgan MacNeely scored 11 to pace the Lady Mountaineers.
Thoughts on the game: The game was pretty interesting all things considered in the first half. Crestwood was really impressive on both sides tonight. For the Mountaineers, I was impressed by Morgan MacNeely coming off the bench and playing really well.
