Lady Comets advance to the Finals with a victory over Valley West

The Crestwood Lady Comets and the Valley West Lady Spartans came to Pittston Area High School for their District 2 5A Semfinal matchup. Valley West is looking to get to the District Title game for the second straight year. Crestwood is looking to get to the District Finals for the first time since 1984. Who would come out on top in this District semifinal and get a spot in the State Playoffs and play at the Mohegan Sun Arena? Let's get to the game!

With the Comets only leading by three, Crestwood would end the quarter on a 9-0 run and a 22-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Comets' shooting would cool as they only managed one basket but the Lady Spartans would only muster a field goal themselves and Crestwood would hit six free throws to Valley West's three and Crestwood would take a 30-15 lead at halftime.

The Comets would outscore Valley West 16-6 in the third quarter to take the 47-21 lead into the fourth quarter. Both teams would empty their bench during the fourth quarter. The Comets would cruise and would advance to the District 2 5A Championship game at the Mohegan Sun Arena with a 60-28 victory over Valley West. They also clinched a spot in the Girls 5A State Playoffs regardless of the result of the District Final.

Thoughts on the game: It was a fantastic performance by Crestwood this afternoon. Julia Makowski had a great game who had 18 points as well as Sara Hopkins who had 16 points. For Valley West, for a team that had to replace most of their starters a year ago and to get to this point is quite impressive. They only lose one starter this year and could back at this point next season.
