Virginia Tech Defense dominates in victory over Florida State

The Virginia Tech Hokies traveled to Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida to take on their ACC rival, the Florida State Seminoles. For the Hokies, they had to replace several on defense players from a year ago but return several players on the offensive side of the ball, including QB Josh Jackson. The Seminoles have a new head coach in Willie Taggart who replaced Jimbo Fisher after he left for Texas A&M. They bring back starting QB Deondre Francois, who missed all but one game last season due to an injury. Who would come out on top in this ACC matchup? Let's get to the game!
The Hokies would start with the ball and would go 10 plays that would end with a Damon Hazelton 10 yard touchdown run for a 7-0 lead. The Seminoles first drive would end with a fumble recovered by Virginia Tech's Khalil Ladler. The Hokies would go six plays that would end with a 29 yard field goal by Brian Johnson for the 10-0. After Florida State and Virginia Tech traded punts, the Seminoles would go nine plays that would result in a 32 yard field goal was missed early in the second quarter. The Hokies couldn't capitalize as they would be forced to punt. The Seminoles would go 12 plays that would end with a 22 yard field by Ricky Aguayo. Virginia Tech would be forced to punt on their next drive. The Seminoles would go three and out and on the punt, it would be blocked and returned by Eric Kumah for a touchdown and a 17-3 Virginia Tech lead. Florida State would give the ball back as Caleb Farley would pick it off. After a few punts, we would go to halftime with the Hokies leading 17-3 on the road.
The third quarter would be a matter of trading punts but late in the third quarter, the Hokies would start at the Seminole 19 yard line and would get as far as the 1 yard line but were unable to punch it in and would turn it over on downs as we ended the third quarter. The Seminoles would be forced to punt and then the Hokies would go three and out. On the first of the Seminoles drive, Cam Akers would go 85 yards to the Hokies 6 yard line. On third and goal, the Seminoles would fumble and the Hokies' Dax Hollifield would recover. The Hokies would go seven plays and ended with a Josh Jackson pass to Eric Kumah from 49 yards out and would lead 24-3. Virginia Tech's defense would dominate the rest of the game as the final two drives would end in interceptions. One was by Caleb Farley and the other was by Vinny Mihota as Virginia Tech would take their first victory of the season over Florida State 24-3.
