Post Labor Day

With Labor Day coming and soon to be passing us, that means a few things. The summer has come to an end, the temperatures will soon drop (not this week, however), and you can watch football five times a week if you so choose. With all that being said, here is what happened during Week 2 of HS Football as well as Week 1 of the Top 25 teams and Local College teams.

GAR 43 Holy Redeemer 0
Justice Lomas ran for 145 yards and two touchdowns and he also had two catches for 18 yards and one touchdown as the Grenadiers blew out Holy Redeemer 43-0. Christian Leon ran for nine yards for the Royals.

Berwick 38 Pittston Area 0
QB Alex Force threw for 102 yards and a touchdown to Blake Maurer and he also ran for 107 yards and three touchdowns as Berwick pitched their second straight shutout and beat Pittston Area 38-0. Patriots QB Mike Nocito threw for 60 yards on the night.

Delaware Valley 24 West Scranton 14
Warriors QB Zach Scillia ran for 74 yards and a touchdown and also added 68 yards in the air as Delaware Valley improved to 1-1 on the year as they knocked off West Scranton. Invaders QB Nick Gioia threw for 248 yards and two touchdowns.

Dunmore 33 Mid Valley 0
Bucks QB Steve Borgia threw for 58 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 59 yards and a touchdown as the Bucks shutout Mid Valley 33-0. The Spartans' Colin Hazelton threw for 35 yards, 33 of those yards went to Zach Rebar.

Honesdale 14 Wallenpaupack 13
QB Ethan Dunn threw for 114 yards and two touchdowns and wideout Luke Bancroft had three catches for 88 yards and a touchdown as Honesdale would upset Wallenpaupack. QB Tom McCormick threw for 163 yards and a touchdown pass to Adam Haupt.

Lake-Lehman 42 Hanover Area 0
Ethan Adams threw for 113 yards and a touchdown and Matt Kurtz ran for two touchdowns as Lake-Lehman would take the shutout road victory at Hanover Area. QB Aaron Hummer threw for 35 yards on the night for Hanover Area.

Lakeland 34 Old Forge 13
Giovanni Spataro ran for 143 yards and three touchdowns and QB CJ Dippre ran for 45 yards and a touchdown as Lakeland upset Old Forge. Blue Devils QB Dante Lucarelli threw for 131 yards and two touchdowns. Tommy Souriyavong had four catches for 68 yards and two touchdowns.

Meyers 53 Northwest 14
Nazir Dunell ran for 154 yards and three touchdowns as part of a three headed attack as Kevin Dessoye ran for 105 yards and two touchdowns and Darrian Tyson ran for 145 yards and a touchdown as Meyers ran over Northwest. Rangers QB David Piestrak ran for 87 yards and a touchdown and threw for 38 yards.

Nanticoke 53 Tunkhannock 31
QB Colby Butczynski scored three total touchdowns and Joe Ammons added another touchdown as Nanticoke improved to 1-1 as they took the road victory in Tunkhannock. The Tigers' Garrett Hopkins scored two touchdowns.

North Pocono 28 Western Wayne 3
QB Donny Blaine threw for 140 yards and three touchdowns and Daniel Walsh had four catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns as North Pocono kept Western Wayne out of the end zone. Wildcats QB Matt Valanda threw for 76 yards.

Riverside 34 Carbondale 14
Kristian Pon ran for 115 yards and two touchdowns and QB Johnny Gilchrist threw for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Chargers RB Marino DePalma ran for 86 yards and Adam Rossetti scored the lone two touchdowns for Carbondale.

Scranton Prep 29 Scranton 0
Cavaliers RB Ryan Cosgrove ran for 165 yards and two touchdowns and QB Leo O'Boyle threw for 129 yards and a touchdown and also added a rushing touchdown as Scranton Prep shutout Scranton. The Knights' Nakazi Terry ran for 37 yards on the night.

Wyoming Area 42 Coughlin 14
Dominic DeLuca threw for four touchdowns on four for five passing and Corey Mruk ran for 64 yards and a touchdown as Wyoming Area improved to 2-0 on the season. Crusaders' RB Marquis Silva ran for 108 yards and Rafael McCoy added a rushing touchdown for Coughlin.

Valley West 21 Hazleton Area 20
Carson Canavan ran for 251 yards and a touchdown and QB Jake Shusta threw for 132 yards and a 65 yard touchdown pass to Nate Baranski as the Spartans upset Hazleton Area. Cougars RB Damon Horton ran for 141 yards and two touchdowns.

Holy Cross 13 Montrose 6
Crusaders RB Jeremy Fick ran for 118 yards and a touchdown and Jake Wiercinski ran in for a score as Holy Cross improved to 2-0 as they knocked off Montrose. Darrin Mpintos ran for the Meteors' only score of the game.

Lackawanna Trail 37 Susquehanna 15
Nathan Rolka threw for 119 yards and two touchdowns and also ran another in as the Lions would take the road victory at Susquehanna on Saturday afternoon. Sabers QB CJ Stone threw for 119 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Valley View 42 Abington Heights 0
Cougars RB Mason Kordish ran for 153 yards and two touchdowns and Janaasah Boone added 32 yards and two touchdowns as Valley View shutout Abington Heights. Comets RB Noah Braid ran for 44 yards on the afternoon.

College Football Local and Top 25 scores
(21) UCF 56 UConn 17
McKenzie Milton threw for 346 yards and five touchdowns and Darriel Mack Jr had a 70 yard touchdown run as UCF blew out UConn on the road. UConn QB David Pindell threw for 266 yards and one touchdown and ran for 157 yards and a touchdown.

(11) Michigan State 38 Utah State 31
Brian Lewerke threw for 287 yards and two touchdowns and LJ Scott added 84 yards on the ground as Michigan State would survive an upset by Utah State. Utah State RB Darwin Thompson ran for 28 yards and two touchdowns.

(4) Wisconsin 34 Western Kentucky 3
Badgers RB Jonathan Taylor ran for 145 yards and two touchdowns and Alex Hornibrook threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns as Wisconsin would keep Western Kentucky out of the end zone. Hilltoppers QB Drew Eckels would throw for 167 yards.

(13) Stanford 31 San Diego St 10
Cardinal QB KJ Costello threw for 332 yards and four touchdowns and wideout JJ Arcega-Whiteside had six catches for 226 yards and three touchdowns on the night as Stanford took down San Diego State. Aztecs RB Juwan Washington ran for 158 yards and a touchdown.

(5) Ohio State 77 Oregon State 31
Dwayne Haskins threw for 313 yards and five touchdowns and Mike Weber would add 186 yards on the ground and three touchdowns and also added a receiving touchdown as Ohio State blew out Oregon State on Saturday afternoon. Beavers QB Conor Blount threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns on the afternoon

Maryland 34 (23) Texas 29
Terrapins QB Kasim Hill threw for 222 yards and a touchdown and Jeshaun Jones had three touchdowns total. One passing, one rushing and another receiving as Maryland became the first unranked opponent to knock off a ranked team this season 34-29 over Texas. Longhorns QB Sam Ehlinger threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns.


(7) Oklahoma 63 FAU 14
Sooners RB Rodney Anderson ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns and QB Kyler Murray added 209 yards in the air and two touchdowns as Oklahoma would blow out FAU. Owls RB Devin Singletary would rush for 69 yards and a touchdown.

(16) TCU 55 Southern 7
Horned Frogs QB Shawn Robinson threw for 182 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 45 yards and two touchdowns on the day as TCU would blow out Southern. Jaguars QB John Lampley would throw for 101 yards and a touchdown pass to Cameron Mackey for their only score of the afternoon.

(2) Clemson 48 Furman 7
QB Trevor Lawrence threw for 137 yards and three touchdowns and Travis Etinenne added 63 yards and a touchdown as the Tigers would take down Furman. Darren Grainger would throw a touchdown pass to Ryan DeLuca for the Paladins' only score of the day.

(9) Auburn 21 (6) Washington 16
QB Jarrett Stidham threw for 273 yards and a touchdown and JaTarvious Whitlow would add a rushing touchdown as Auburn would take down Washington in a matchup of Top 10 teams. Huskies QB Jake Browning would throw for 296 yards and a touchdown.

(17) West Virginia 40 Tennessee 14
Will Grier threw for 429 yards and five touchdowns and David Sills V had seven catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns as West Virginia took a convincing victory over Tennessee. Volunteers RB Tim Jordan ran for 118 yards and a touchdown.

(3) Georgia 45 Austin Peay 0
Jake Fromm threw for 157 yards and two touchdowns and Demetris Robinson had a 72 yard touchdown run as Georgia shut out Austin Peay in their home opener. Governors QB JaVaughn Craig threw for 36 yards.

(10) Penn State 45 Appalachian State 38 (OT)
Miles Sanders rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns including the eventual game-winner in overtime and cornerback Amani Oruwariye sealed the game with an interception on Applachian State's next drive as Penn State would take down Applachian State in overtime to avoid the upset. Mountaineers QB Zac Thomas threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for another score.

(15) USC 43 UNLV 21
In his college debut, JT Daniels threw for 282 yards and a touchdown and Aca'Cedric Ware rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown as USC would beat UNLV. Rebels QB Armani Rogers would throw for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

(22) Boise State 56 Troy 20
Brett Rypien threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns and Chase Cord had a 44 yard touchdown run as Boise State beat Troy. Troys QB Kaleb Barker threw for 211 yards and a touchdown to Deondre Douglas.

(18) Mississippi State 63 SF Austin 6
Keytaon Thompson threw for 364 yards and five touchdowns and also rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns as the Bulldogs would take down SF Austin. Lumberjacks QB Foster Sawyer threw for 147 yards on the night.

(1) Alabama 51 Louisville 14
Tua Tagovailoa threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns and also added 26 yards on the ground and a touchdown as Alabama took a convincing victory over Louisville. Cardinals QB Jawon Pass threw for 252 yards and two touchdowns.

(24) Oregon 58 Bowling Green 24
QB Justin Herbert threw for 281 yards and five touchdowns and also added 41 yards on the ground and a touchdown as Oregon would take down Bowling Green. Falcons QB Jarret Doege threw for 253 yards and three touchdowns.

Moravian 24 King's 0
Doug Erney threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns and Nick Petros had five catches for 68 yards and a touchdown as Moravian would shutout King's. Monarchs QB Gabe Boccella would throw for 97 yards.

Hartwick 28 Wilkes 24
Bryce Macina threw for 227 yards and three touchdowns and Ronald Ballard added 173 yards on the ground and a touchdown as Hartwick would take down Wilkes on the road. Colonels QB Jose Tabora would throw for 234 yards and three touchdowns.

Merchant Marine 30 Misericordia 9
Krystian Abbott ran for 92 yards and a touchdown and Alec Kiernan also added 90 yards on the ground and a touchdown as Merchant Marine would take down Misericordia. Cougars QB Brady Williams would throw for 238 yards.

Bloomsburg 30 Merrimack 16
Erik Benjamin threw for 145 yards and a touchdown and also added two rushing touchdowns as the Huskies would go to 1-0 by beating Merrimack. Merrimack QB Christian Carter threw for 237 yards and a touchdown pass to Cody Demers.
