The LSU Tigers and Miami Hurricanes traveled to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas for their first game of the college football season. Miami comes in ranked at number 8 during the season. LSU comes in at number 25. Who would come out on top in this heated matchup between an ACC team and an SEC team? Let's find out!
The Hurricanes would start with the ball and would go three and out immediately. The Tigers would take over and go on a seven play drive that would end with a Cole Tracy 43 yard field goal for a 3-0 LSU lead. The Hurricanes would go on their second drive and have more success. They would go on a six play drive that would result in 38 yard field goal by freshman Bubba Baxa. The Tigers would go three and out on their next drive. The Hurricanes would go nine plays but would come up short as Baxa would miss a 45 yard field goal. The Tigers would get a 50 yard touchdown run by Nick Brossette for a 10-3 LSU lead. The Hurricanes would go three and out once again as the first quarter came to an end. The Tigers would go on a long 11 play drive ending with Brossette scoring from one yard out for his second score of the game and a 17-3 LSU lead. Miami would have their second straight three and out and then the Tigers would go six plays that would end with a 21 yard field goal by Tracy for a 20-3 lead. The Hurricanes would get the ball back and Travis Homer would go for 17 yards but on the next play, Malik Rosier would be intercepted by Jacob Phillips and returned 45 yards for a touchdown and a 27-3 lead and that would be the score at halftime.
Miami and LSU would trade punts on their first possessions of the second half. The Tigers would get to the Miami 3 yard line but would settle for a 21 yard field goal by Tracy for a 30-3 lead. The Hurricanes would get into Tigers territory but Rosier would be pressure and hit as he threw and the pass would be picked off by John Battle and returned to the Miami 41 yard line. The Tigers would go four plays and get a 54 yard field goal by Tracy for the 33-3 lead. Before the end of the third quarter, the Hurricanes would drive to the 20 yard line as the quarter came to an end. The drive would end with Rosier scoring from three yards out for the Hurricanes first touchdown of the game. After the Tigers punted, the Hurricanes would go on a quick four play drive, highlighted by a Rosier pass to Jeff Thomas for 50 yards to the LSU 32 yard line on third and 18. On the next play, Rosier would go to Brian Hightower from 32 yards out to make it 33-17 in favor of LSU. The Tigers would get one first down but wouldn't get another and would punt the ball back. The Hurricanes would get the ball at their own 5 yard line. Miami would face a fourth and 3 and Rosier would find Darrell Langham for six yards. Back-to-back pass interference penalties would move the ball to the LSU 40 yard line. They would face a fourth and 10 and Rosier would be sacked by Breiden Fehoko and the Tigers would take over. The Tigers would go five plays and would punt the ball back to Miami with 2:12 left. The Hurricanes would go four and out as LSU would make a statement win as they knocked off the Hurricanes 33-17 at AT&T Stadium.
