The Crestwood Comets hosted the Pittston Area Patriots at Veterans Field in Mountain Top on Saturday afternoon. The Comets are back on the field after a week due to weather. The Patriots are looking to get back on track with a victory after losing to Tunkhannock. Hunter Ralston got the start for Pittston Area. Crestwood sent Brandon Brozena to the mound.
Kyle Ralston would lead off by reaching on an error than go to second on an errant pickoff. After a flyout, Johnny DeLucca would single home Ralston for a 1-0 Patriots lead and DeLucca would advance to second on the play. DeLucca would get out going to third on a grounder by Riley Brody then Joe Stella would single but Brody would get tagged out as he got off second for the third out. Colin Macko would start off with a one out double then move to third on a fly ball to center by Justin Darden but a ground out would end the inning. Brozena would throw a 1-2-3 second for the Comets. Corey Chalk would hit a two out double but a strikeout would end the inning. Kevin Krawczyk would get hit by a pitch with two outs but a fielder's choice would end the Pittston Area threat. Brett Caladie and Macko would each hit one out singles but a flyout and a groundout would end the inning. Joe Stella would hit a one out single then went to second on a passed ball. Two groundouts would end the top half of the fourth. Hunter Ralston would throw a 1-2-3 fourth for the Patriots. Hunter Ralston would single and get picked off trying to go to second then Derrick Cunis would single but back-to-back groundouts would end the Patriots threat. Ralston would throw another 1-2-3 inning in the fifth. Colby Jones would come in to pitch for the Comets in the sixth inning. Riley Brody would reach on an error then Joe Stella would single and Alex McAndrew would draw a walk to load the bases. Jones would get a strikeout and a flyout to keep the game 1-0 in favor of the Patriots. Macko would lead off with a triple. However, a pitch got past the catcher but was able to get it to throw to Ralston to get Macko at the plate to keep the lead. Darden would reach on an error but a flyout and a caught stealing would end the sixth. Cunis would draw a leadoff walk then stole second and got to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kyle Ralston then got home on a wild pitch to give the Patriots a 2-0 advantage. Krawczyk would hit a single then stole second. On a popup, Chalk made the catch but fell down and Krawczyk tried to get to third and on his back, Chalk threw to third in time for the third out. Brozena would get hit a pitch with one out but back to back flyouts would end the game as the Patriots took down Crestwood 2-0.
Thoughts on the game: Great game by Hunter Ralston today. Scattering five hits while striking out four. The Patriots defense made some good plays. Joe Stella had a good game at the plate, going 3 for 3. For the Comets, Colin Macko had a good game with three hits and was a home run away from the cycle.
