The Washington Nationals and the Los Angeles Dodgers completed their three game series on Sunday night baseball. The series is knotted up at one and both teams are looking to take the series in a matchup of National League playoff teams. Jeremy Hellickson is on the mound for the Nationals. The Dodgers gave the ball to Alex Wood.
Wood would start with a 1-2-3 top of the first for the Dodgers. Corey Seager would hit a one out double to right. A groundout would move Seager to third and Cody Bellinger would walk but a flyout to center would keep the game scoreless after one. Ryan Zimmerman would hit a ground-rule double to right then Michael Taylor would single to move Zimmerman to third. After a strikeout, Taylor would steal second base then Pedro Severino would hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Zimmerman for a 1-0 Nationals lead. After an intentional walk, Wood would get a groundout to end the inning. Hellickson would have a 1-2-3 second inning for the Nationals. Bryce Harper would get a two out single to left but a forceout would end the inning. Hellickson would throw another 1-2-3 inning in the third inning. Michael Taylor would lead off the top of the fourth with a home run to left for a 2-0 Washington lead. Wood would get the next three batters to keep it 2-0 in favor of the Nationals. Hellickson had his third straight 1-2-3 inning in the fourth. Howie Kendrick would hit a two out double to left but a groundout would end the top half of the fifth. Hellickson had his fourth straight 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fifth. Taylor would hit a one out double to left then would go to third on an errant pickoff. Moises Sierra would hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Taylor for a 3-0 Nationals lead. A strikeout would end the inning. Chris Taylor would hit a one out double to right for the Dodgers. Seager would draw a walk, then Yasmani Grandal would hit a double to right to score Taylor and Seager to cut the Nationals lead to 3-2. Sammy Solis would come in to pitch for the Nationals. Cody Bellinger would then hit a double to center to score Grandal to tie the game at 3. Pinch hitter Enrique Hernandez would draw a walk. Trevor Gott would come in to pitch for the Nationals and would get back to back strikeouts to end the sixth inning. Josh Fields comes in to pitch for the Dodgers. Wilmer Difo draw a leadoff walk then Andrew Stevenson would hit a single to right to get Difo to third but Stevenson would be out trying to go to second but Fields would get back to back strikeouts to keep the game tied. Austin Barnes would get hit by a pitch with one out then Chris Taylor would single to right to get Barnes to third. Seager would hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Barnes to give the Dodgers their first lead of the game 4-3. Taylor would be called safe on stealing second base but upon further review, Taylor would be called out for the third out of the seventh inning. Tony Cingrani came in to pitch for the Dodgers and would get a strikeout. After that, Pedro Baez came in to pitch for the Dodgers. After a flyout, Michael Taylor would walk but a popout would end the top of the eighth. Brandon Kintzler would come in to pitch for the Nationals. Grandal would lead off with a walk but Kintzler would get the next three outs to keep it a one run game. Kenley Jansen would come in for the save for the Dodgers. Pinch hitter Matt Adams would hit a leadoff single to right then Difo would single to right to move Adams to seconds. However, Jansen would retire the next three batters as the Dodgers would take two of three at home with a 4-3 victory over the Nationals.
