Crestwood starts hot in win over Coughlin

The Crestwood Comets started their Wyoming Conference Schedule as they hosted the Coughlin Cruaders. The Comets come in as the defending WVC Division 1 champions. The Crusaders are coming off an extra innings loss to Hazleton Area at home. Crestwood gave Brandon Brozena the start on the mound. The Crusaders went to Darryn Marek on the mound.
 Brozena started off the game with a 1-2-3 inning in the first. Brett Caladie led off with a bloop single to right, then Colin Macko got hit by a pitch. Justin Darden would then double to score Caladie for a 1-0 Comets lead. Evan Knapp would then bring home Macko and Darden for a 3-0 lead. Brozena would then reach on an error and Knapp would get to third and would score on a double steal for a 4-0 advantage. After a strikeout, Mike Palmeiro would draw a walk. Then the Crusaders would get a popup for the second out then Wyatt Kindler would single home courtesy runner Mick Bafunno for the 5-0 lead. Caladie would single home Palmeiro for the 6-0 lead. Macko would walk to load the bases. Matt Zalaffi would come in to pitch for the Crusaders. Darden walked to bring home Kindler. Knapp would hit a double to score Caladie and Macko for the 9-0 lead. Brozena would single to score Darden to finish the inning with a 10-0 lead as a groundout ended the inning.
 Ben Yozwiak would get a one out single but Brozena would get a 6-4-3 double play to end the top half of the second. Palmeiro would lead off with a single but would be forced out at second on a grounder by Matt Taleroski. After a flyout, Caladie would reach on an error. Macko would hit a single to bring in Taleroski for a 11-0 Comets lead. Darden would draw a walk then a forceout would end the inning. Brozena would throw another 1-2-3 inning in the third inning. Chalk would reach on an error with one out. After a flyout, Taleroski would bring in Chalk for the 12-0 lead. Taleroski would go to third and Kindler would go to second. Austin Anthony would reach on an error as Taleroski and Kindler scored for the 14-0 lead. Zach Naperkowski would come in to pitch for the Crusaders. Caden Rozitski would draw a walk then a lineout would end the inning. TJ Wozniak would reach on an error with two outs but a groundout would keep Coughlin off the scoreboard. Naperkowski would have a 1-2-3 fourth for the Crusaders. Eric Witner would come in to pitch for the Comets. Yozniak would lead off with a single, then Josh Rhodes would follow with a bloop single. After a grounder moved the runners to second and third, Tanner Smith would reach on an error would score Yozwiak to break the shutout. A strikeout and a flyout would end the game as the Comets started off their league play at 1-0 with a 14-1 victory over Coughlin. The Crusaders fell to 0-2 on the season.

Thoughts on the game: It was overall a really good game for Crestwood. They started off hot in the first inning and never looked back from there. Evan Knapp had a really good game, going 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs on the season. For Coughlin, Ben Yozniak had a great game, going 2 for 2 with a run scored.
