Palmiero's Grand Slam propels Comets over Hazleton Area

The Crestwood Comets hosted the Hazleton Area Cougars at Veterans Field in Mountain Top. The Comets are coming off a big victory over Coughlin yesterday. The Cougars are coming off a loss to Valley West. Brady Antolick got the start for the Cougars. Corey Chalk stared on the mound for the Comets. 

 Chris Heim led off the game with a single but Chalk would retire the next three batters. Brett Caladie led off by getting hit by a pitch. Caladie would get to second on a wild pitch then to third on a passed ball. After a strikeout, Justin Darren would hit a ground ball to third and tried to get to Caladie at third but would be safe and Darden would reach safely as well. Evan Knapp would come up and hit a triple that would score Caladie and Darden for a 2-0 Crestwood lead. Back to back pop ups would end the inning. Jerome Repetz would hit a one out single then get to second on a stolen base. After a strikeout, Matt Gentile would hit a single to right and Wyatt Kindler would throw out Repetz at the plate to end the Top of the second. Nick Toronzi would hit a two out double to center then stole third base, Brett Caladie would bring in Toronzi on a single for a 3-0 lead. Macko would hit a single, then Darden would draw a walk to load the bases. Knapp would reach on an error to score Caladie for a 4-0 lead. Mike Palmiero would then hit a grand slam to left to break the game open at 8-0. A flyout would end the second inning. Corey Zientek would draw a leadoff walk then Heim would hit a single for a first and second with no outs, but a strike em out-throw em out double play and a groundout would end the threat. Stew Caladie would get hit by a pitch to lead off the third. Matt Taleroski would then draw a walk. After an infield fly, Brett Caladie would hit a single to load the bases then Macko would hit a flyball to left to score Stew Caladie for a 9-0 advantage. A ground out would end the third inning. Ryan Pietrzyk would hit a one out single but a strikeout and a pop up would end the fourth. Palmiero would draw a one out walk but a popout and a flyout ended the inning. Zientek would hit a one out single but would forced out st second and a strikeout would end the inning. Mick Bafunno would hit a leadoff single and would get to second on a passed ball, Austin Anthony would get Bafunno to third on a grounder to second then Brett Caladie would hit a single to score Bafunno as the Comets took the victory 10-0 in five innings over Hazleton Area. 

Thoughts on the game: Another incredible game by the Comets. Evan Knapp continued his hot start with a two-run triple in the first. Mike Palmiero hit a grand slam to break the game open. For the Cougars, Chris Heim had a great game with two hits.
