The first full week of the High School Baseball and Softball season is in the books. So far we have nine baseball teams undefeated and five softball teams undefeated. There are a few surprises and there were a few upsets. So with that being said, here's 10 things that happened this week.
-Lady Royals pitcher Morgan Bienkowski had an incredible week, striking out 52. She had 24 in Holy Redeemer's ten inning victory over Wyoming Seminary. They would also knock Lake-Lehman the next day 5-0 and she would strikeout 15. The Royals would finish the week with a 3-0 victory over Northwest.
-Pittston Area softball had one of the biggest upsets of the early season as they knocked off Hazleton Area 7-5. The Patriots would score six runs in the fourth to give PA the lead to stay.
-West Scranton softball is off to a 3-0 as they knocked off Scranton Prep 14-7 and Scranton 17-2.
-Wallenpaupack softball is on a 2-0 start as they knocked off North Pocono 4-1 and Delaware Valley 16-0.
-The defending 3A Softball Champion Mid Valley is off to a 2-0 as they beat Holy Cross 3-0 and Dunmore 4-2. They also beat Mountain View 18-3 in an exhibition matchup.
-Hanover Area is off to a 4-0 start. They knocked off Meyers 3-2 on Tuesday then beat Northwest 17-2 to stay unbeaten in league play.
-Dallas played four games this week after their only game of last week was postponed. Dallas went out and beat Berwick 2-1 in eight innings, then beat Tunkhannock 6-2 on Wednesday, beat Wyoming Area 13-2 on Friday and then on Saturday, knocked off Nanticoke 8-3.
-Valley West is also 4-0. They knocked off Hazleton Area 5-4 on a walkoff, then beat Crestwood 6-1 on Wednesday. On Friday, beat Coughlin 7-0 and then on Saturday, they knocked off Pittston Area 7-3.
-North Pocono has a 2-0 start. They beat Valley View 3-0 and then beat Scranton 2-0. They have yet to allow a run in league play.
-Forest City starts off 2-0 as well. The defending District 2 Single-A Champions knocked off Lackawanna Trail 7-1 and then Montrose 4-3.
