Lady Comets come out on top against Wyoming Area

The Wyoming Area Lady Warriors put their undefeated record on the line as they traveled to Mountain Top to take on the Crestwood Comets. The Comets are coming in on a three game winning streak, beating Valley West, Coughlin and Hazleton Area. The Warriors are currently 11-0 on the season and hope to stay undefeated. Who would come on top in this WVC Crossover matchup? Let's find out! Crestwood would start off with a 7-2 lead but the Warriors would answer with a 8-2 run to lead 10-9. Riley Magin would give them the lead with a three pointer but it would be short lived as Sara Holweg hit a three to give the Warriors the lead once again. The Comets would go on an 11-0 to end the quarter and would lead 23-13 after a quarter. The Comets would increase their lead as high as 15 but Cassidy Orzel's eight points in the quarter would keep Wyoming Area within 10 at halftime with the score being 37-27 in favor of the Comets. The Warriors tried their hardest to get within striking distance of the Comets but Crestwood would answer each time but at the end of the quarter, Crestwood would only lead 47-38. With the Comets leading by 11, Holweg would hit back to back three pointers to cut the lead to five points. Helena Jardine would hit both free throws to make it a seven point lead and Julia Makowski would make the first free throw to make it an eight point game but Crestwood would get the offensive rebound and use some time on the clock. An Orzel three point play would make it a five point lead once again. After Sara Richards hit one of two free throws, Hopkins would get a steal and a layup for an eight point and looked like it would seal the game for the Comets but the Warriors kept fighting back. Orzel would make both free throws to make it a six point game but the Comets would make their free throws as Crestwood handed Wyoming Area their first loss of the season with a 64-57 victory.

Thoughts on the game: It was a pretty interesting game to watch in all honesty. Crestwood's red hot shooting helped them greatly in the first half. Sara Hopkins played great during the game but started shining in the fourth quarter. She scored eight of her 13 points in the final frame. They also did a great job on the boards. For Wyoming Area, I will say I was very impressed by them. I thought Sara Holweg and Cassidy Orzel played great games tonight. I can understand why they were 11-0 coming into the game. I think you can see both these teams playing deep into February and potentially early March.
