The Dallas Mountaineers came into Mountain Top with something to prove as they took on the Crestwood Comets. The Mountaineers lost both games last year against Crestwood and hope to take the victory on the road. The Mountaineers come in with a record of 5-1. The Crestwood Comets may be young, but they ended their exhibition schedule with a 4-2 record. Who would come out on top in this WVC Division 1 matchup? Let's get to it! After the Comets took a 3-2 lead on a Camden Boris three pointer, the Mountaineers would go on a 11-0 run that ended when Boris hit another three pointer but the Mountaineers would answer when Jay Bittner hit a three pointer. They would go on another run and would lead 25-6 after one quarter. Sean Murphy would start heating up for the Comets as he started with a pair of three pointers and Mike Palmeiro would another three pointer for a 9-0 Crestwood run to cut the Dallas lead to ten points. The Comets run would end on a Matt Mathers basket. The Mountaineers would have as big of a lead as 16 but before the half, the Comets would go on a 7-0 run to cut the lead at halftime to 35-26. Crestwood would start off the quarter with a three pointer by Murphy but the third quarter would be all Mountaineers as they went on a 15-0 run til Evan Knapp hit a three pointer before the final minute of the third quarter and would lead 50-32. The Mountaineers would cruise throughout the fourth to take the victory 57-40.
Thoughts on the game: The Mountaineers looked fantastic throughout most of the game. They looked very athletic and had some height. I was impressed by both Joey Parsons who had 21 points and Alex Charlton who had 15. For Crestwood, even though they lost, I was impressed by a few players. Sean Murphy had a great game with 11 points and taking a couple charges and forcing a bunch of turnovers.
