Alabama takes down Clemson, advances to Title game
The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Clemson Tigers faced off for the third straight year but instead of playing for the National Championship, they would playing for the right to play in the National Championship. The Crimson Tide won the National Championship in 2015 and the Tigers took it in 2016 on a last second play. Who would come out on top in this big time college football matchup? Let's get into the game! The Tigers would start with the ball and would go three and out. The Crimson Tide would go three and out on their first drive of the game. Clemson went three and out once again on their next drive. The Crimson Tide would go on a 10 play drive that would end with a 24 yard field goal by Andy Pappanastos and would make it to open the scoring with Alabama leading 3-0. The Tigers had their third straight three and out on the next drive. The Crimson Tide would go on an eight play drive that would end with Calvin Ridley scoring on a 12 yard run to make it 10-0 Alabama at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers would go on a long 13 play drive that ended with a 44 yard field goal by Alex Spence to cut the Tide's lead to 10-3. The Tide and Tigers would trade punts after the Clemson field goal and Alabama would take over and go on 10 play drive that ended with a 38 yard field goal attempt by Pappanastos and it would hit the goalpost and would fail and Clemson would take a knee as we head to halftime with Alabama leading 10-3. The Tide would get the ball to start the second half and on the first play, Alabama would fumble and Clemson would recover. The Tigers would get a 42 yard field goal to cut the Crimson Tide lead to 10-6. The Crimson Tide would go three and out on the next drive. The Tigers drive would end in an interception by Alabama's Da'Ron Payne to the Tigers 27 yard line. The Tide would go seven plays that would end with Payne going in from 1 yard out to make it 17-6. First play of Clemson's next drive would result in an interception by Mack Wilson would be returned 18 yards for a score to make it 24-6 in the middle of the third quarter. The Crimson Tide would cruise to take the victory to dethrone the National Champs and get back to the title game for the third straight season. The Championship game is now an all SEC championship as Georgia knocked off Oklahoma in double overtime.
