Georgia takes Rose Bowl over Oklahoma in classic game
The Georgia Bulldogs and the Oklahoma Sooners traveled to Pasadena, California for the Rose Bowl for the first semifinal of the College Football playoff. The Sooners are led by Heisman Trophy winning QB Baker Mayfield. The Bulldogs are led by freshman QB Jake Fromm. Who would come out on top in the first semifinal matchup of the college football playoff? Let's get to it! The Bulldogs would start with the ball and the drive would end with a punt. The Sooners would start at their own 20 yard line and on second and 10, Baker Mayfield would find Dimitri Flowers for 16 yards. On the next play, Mayfield would find Flowers again for a 26 yard completion. After a roughing the passer on Georgia, the Sooners would be at the Bulldogs 15 yard line. On second and 8, Mayfield would find Marquise Brown for a 13 yard touchdown and a 7-0 Oklahoma lead. The Bulldogs would answer with a six play drive ending with Jake Fromm going to Sony Michel for a 13 yard touchdown to tie the game at 7. The Sooners would take the lead on the next drive with a six play drive ending with a nine yard touchdown run by Rodney Anderson. The Bulldogs would go on a nine play drive ending with a 48 yard field goal attempt by Rodrigo Blankenship and he would miss the field goal. The Sooners would score on their third consecutive drive on a five play drive with Anderson going 41 yards for his second score of the game to make it 21-7. The Bulldogs would only take one play to get back into the game as Sony Michel went 75 yards for his second touchdown of the game to cut the Oklahoma lead to 21-14. The Sooners would go on an eleven play drive that ended with a 38 yard field goal attempt by Austin Seibert and he would make it to increase the lead to 24-14. The Bulldogs would punt on their next possession. The Sooners would go three and out and then the Bulldogs would punt unable to capitalize. The Sooners would go on a ten play drive that would end with Mayfield going to CeeDee Lamb for a two yard touchdown to make it 31-14 with six seconds to go. Oklahoma would squib kick and Georgia would take over at the Sooners 47 yard line and Fromm would go to Terry Godwin for nine yards and the Bulldogs would line up for a 55 yard field goal attempt by Blankenship and he would make it to cut the lead to 31-17 in favor of the Sooners at halftime. The Sooners would start with the ball in the second half and would go three and out. The Bulldogs would get within a touchdown as Nick Chubb would score from 50 yards out on the first offensive play of the second half to make it 31-24 in favor of Oklahoma. The Sooners would go three and out once again. The Bulldogs would go three and out on their next series. The Sooners would be forced to punt on their next drive. The Bulldogs would tie the game on a six play drive ending with Sony Michel going 38 yards for the score. The Sooners would face a third and 10 as we head to the fourth quarter. First play of the fourth quarter, Mayfield's pass would be intercepted by Dominick Sanders and returned to the Sooners four yard line. On second and goal, Fromm would find Javon Wims for the four yard score to take a 38-31 Bulldogs lead. After the Sooners and Bulldogs traded punts, the Sooners would tie the game on a six play drive ending with Mayfield going to Flowers for the 11 yard touchdown pass. The Bulldogs would get to their own 46 yard line but Georgia would fumble and it would be recovered by Steven Parker and returned 46 yards for the touchdown to make it 45-38 in favor of the Sooners. After Georgia and Oklahoma traded punts, the Bulldogs would get the ball with 3:15 left in hopes of tying the game up. On second and 6, Fromm would find Godwin for 15 yards into Sooners territory at the 40. Next play, Fromm would find Michel for 17 yards. The Bulldogs would face a third and 10 and Fromm would find Godwin for 16 yards to the seven yard line. After a pass interference penalty on Oklahoma on first and goal, Nick Chubb would score on a two yard touchdown run to tie the game at 45 with 45 seconds to go. The Sooners would be forced to punt and the Bulldogs would run down the clock as we head to the end of regulation, tied up at 45. The Bulldogs and Sooners would trade field goals in the first overtime to force a second overtime. The Sooners would face a third and 5 and it looked like the Bulldogs would get an interception in the end zone but the Bulldogs would be offsides and give Oklahoma a first down. The Sooners would line up for a 27 yard field goal attempt by Seibert and the kick would be blocked. On the Bulldogs possession, Sony Michel would finish his monster game with a 27 yard touchdown run as Georgia advanced to the National Championship with a victory over Oklahoma.
