Eagles defense shines as they knock off Atlanta
The defending NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons traveled to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia to take on the Eagles in the NFC Divisional Playoff game. The Eagles are the number 1 seed and are hoping to win their first Super Bowl in team history. The Falcons are looking to get back to the Super Bowl after falling to the Patriots last season. Who would come out on top in this playoff matchup? Let's find out! The Eagles would start with the ball and on the second play of the drive, after a pass interference penalty on Atlanta, Jay Ajayi would fumble and the Falcons would recover and would take over at their own 26 yard line. The Falcons would go on an eleven play drive ending with a 33 yard field goal by Matt Bryant for a 3-0 lead for Atlanta. The next Eagles drive would end in a punt. After the Eagles defense forced a punt, their offense would go on a 14 play drive ending in a one yard touchdown run by LeGarette Blount for a 6-3 Philadelphia lead after the extra point was missed early in the second quarter. The Falcons would punt on their next possession, however, the Eagles would muff the punt and the Falcons would recover. The Falcons would capitalize with Matt Ryan going to Devonta Freeman for a six yard touchdown pass for a 10-6 Atlanta lead. The Eagles and Falcons would trade punt but the Eagles would take over at their own 28 yard line after Philadelphia partially blocked the punt. The Eagles would drive down the field for a 53 yard field goal attempt by Jake Elliott and he would make it as we head to halftime with Atlanta leading 10-9. In the second half, the Falcons and Eagles each traded three and outs, then after another Atlanta punt, late in the third quarter, Philadelphia would go on a 12 play drive that ended with a 37 yard field goal by Elliott to give the Eagles a 12-10 lead as we headed to the fourth quarter. The Falcons would go three and out early in the fourth quarter. The Eagles would face a third and 7 and Nick Foles would go to Ajayi for 32 to the Falcons 48 yard line. They faced another third and 7 and Foles would find Zach Ertz for 11 to the 34 yard line. On the next play, Foles would find Nelson Agholor for 10 yards to the 24 yard line. On third and 2, Blount would go for four yards for a first down. The Eagles would face a third and 3 and Foles would find Corey Clement but would be one yard short and would get a 21 yard field goal by Elliott to increase the Philadelphia lead to 15-10 with 6:05 left. The Falcons would need a touchdown to take the lead. On second and 3, Tevin Coleman would go for seven yards. The Falcons would face a third and 6 and Matt Ryan would find Sanu but upon further review, the pass was called incomplete. They would go for it on foruth and 6 and Ryan would find Julio Jones for 20 yards to the Eagles 38 yard line. On second and 10, Ryan would find Jones for 12 to the 26 yard line as we head to the two-minute warning. On second and 3, Coleman would go for 10 yards to the nine yard line. They would face a fourth and goal with 1:05 to go and Ryan would roll out and try for Julio Jones and the pass would fall incomplete. The Eagles would take over at their own two yard line and the Falcons would go offsides to get them to their own seven yard line and a first and 5. Corey Clement would go for five yards to seal the game and the Philadelphia Eagles advanced to the NFC Championship game with a 15-10 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
