Glory Awaits

One District Champion has already been crowned and this week, four more teams will be crowned District Champions and will go on to states. Old Forge is part of a Subregional with District 1 for the right to enter the State Playoffs. The question is how deep will certain teams go into the postseason? It's all about how well a team executes their gameplan along with the talent level. The next few weeks look to be interesting with the State playoffs and with college football hitting the end with the unveiling of the College Football playoff rankings. With all that being said, here are this week's playoff games as well as local college football and the Top 25 teams in the college football playoff rankings.

High School Playoffs

District 1/2 Subregional Final
Old Forge vs Delco Christian
Fri 7 PM at Marple-Newtown HS
Old Forge won the District 2 title with a victory over Lackawanna Trail. Delco Christian won the District 1 title with a win over Jenkintown. Blue Devils freshman QB Dante Lucarelli threw for 186 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Delco Christian's Jalen Mitchell had three total touchdowns in the District Championship.

District 2 2A Championship
Carbondale at Dunmore
Fri 7 PM
Carbondale advanced to the Final with a victory over Lakeland. Dunmore stayed undefeated and advanced with a win over Mid Valley. Carbondale RB Nick Vadella rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown against Lakeland in the semifinal. Bucks RB Cristian Buckley rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown in the win to stay undefeated. The Bucks come in as huge favorites but can Carbondale handle the Bucks' several array of weapons? We shall see.

District 2 3A Championship
Lake-Lehman at Scranton Prep

Lake-Lehman got here with an overtime victory on the road against Western Wayne. Scranton Prep got here by beating Meyers and staying undefeated. Lake-Lehman's Trey Borger rushed for 116 yards in the win. Cavaliers QB Leo O'Boyle threw for 103 yards and four touchdowns in the blowout of Meyers.

Prediction: Scranton Prep

District 2 4A Semifinals
North Pocono at Berwick
Fri 7 PM
North Pocono got to the semifinals with a victory over Pittston Area. Berwick got here with a win over Wyoming Area. This is a rematch of last year's District title game and looks like it could be a good game. Trojans QB Donny Blaine threw for 104 yards and a touchdown. Since returning from injury, Bulldogs QB Jared Marshman has been fantastic. Marshman has thrown for 753 yards and 12 touchdowns while he has only thrown one interception.

Prediction: Berwick

Coughlin at Valley View
Fri 7 PM
Coughlin got here by upsetting Dallas on the road. Valley View got to the semifinals by knocking off Crestwood. The Crusaders' Vincent Todd was incredible in the upset of Dallas. Todd rushed for 249 yards and two touchdowns. The Cougars defense was impressive in their blowout of Crestwood. They held the Crestwood offense to three yards of total offense.

Prediction: Valley View

District 2 5A Championship
Valley West at Wallenpaupack
Thurs 7 PM
Valley West got here by knocking off Abington Heights. Wallenpaupack got a bye with being the top seed in the District 2 5A tournament. The Spartans Rob Dwyer scored three touchdowns in three different ways. Dwyer threw for a score, ran one in and caught a touchdown in the playoff victory over Abington Heights. Buckhorns RB Joe Ingulli is rushing for 1,061 yards and nine touchdowns on the season.

Prediction: Valley West

District 2 6A Championship
Hazleton Area at Delaware Valley

Hazleton Area got to the Finals with a close victory over Williamsport on the road. Delaware Valley stayed unbeaten and got to the Championship game by beating Scranton. The Cougars Adrian Otero caught three passes for 124 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown in the upset of Williamsport. The Warriors Ryan Obiso had the most impressive performance in the first week of the playoffs. He rushed for a walloping 364 yards and five touchdowns. Both these teams played each other in September with the Warriors getting the win but will the Warriors undefeated season continue or do the Cougars have another upset in them?

Wilkes at King's

Wilkes is coming off a loss to Stevenson and is hoping to end their season with their first win. King's is coming off a loss to Widener. The battle for the Mayor's Cup in the final game of the season for both teams. Wilkes TE Garrett Armstrong has 56 catches for 548 yards and five touchdowns. Monarchs RB Jordan Downes has rushed for 584 yards and four touchdowns.

Misericordia is coming off a loss to Delaware Valley. FDU-Florham is coming off a loss to Albright. Misericordia wideout Josh Dieter has 25 catches for 320 yards and six touchdowns. FDU QB Jagger Green has thrown for 2,055 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Clarion at Bloomsburg

Clarion is coming off a loss to Gannon. Bloomsburg is coming off a loss to Shippensburg. Clarion RB Mylique McGriff has rushed for 768 yards and four touchdowns. Huskies RB Qmac Quiteh rushed for 904 yards and seven touchdowns.

Washington is coming off a victory over Oregon. Stanford is coming off a loss to Washington State. Huskies junior RB Myles Gaskin has rushed for 918 yards and nine touchdowns. Stanford RB Bryce Love has rushed for 1,456 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Arkansas is coming off a one point victory over Coastal Carolina. LSU is coming off a loss to Alabama. Razorbacks QB Cole Kelley threw for 1,002 yards and eight touchdowns. Tigers QB Danny Etling threw for 1,589 yards and nine touchdowns.

Oklahoma State is coming off a loss to in-state rival Oklahoma. Iowa State is coming off a surprising loss to West Virginia. Cowboys RB Justice Hill rushed for 1,064 yards and nine touchdowns. Cyclones QB Jacob Park has thrown for 1,181 yards and nine touchdowns.

Michigan State is coming off a last second victory over Penn State. Ohio State is coming off a disappointing loss to Iowa. This game could determine who wins the Big Ten East Division and goes to the Championship game in Indianapolis. A Michigan State win would give them a sweep of Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan. Spartans QB Brian Lewerke is throwing for 2,207 yards and 16 touchdowns. Ohio State RB JK Dobbins is rushing for 914 yards and five touchdowns.

An Auburn win could get the Tigers even more into the discussion of a spot in the playoff. Georgia winning could loom big as they could possibly play Alabama in the SEC Championship game and with a possible spot in the College Football playoff on the line. Bulldogs QB Jake Fromm has thrown for 1,459 yards and 15 touchdowns. Tigers RB Kerryon Johnson has rushed for 868 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Iowa is coming off a big win at home over Ohio State. Wisconsin is coming off a win over Indiana. The next two games will determine the Badgers' fate in the playoff picture with this week's game against Iowa and Michigan next week. Iowa has played tough with a quite a few teams this season but losses to Northwestern and Michigan State on the road have derailed their chances for a shot at the Big Ten Championship. They can, however, play spoiler to Wisconsin who has hopes of making the playoff. Hawkeyes QB Nathan Stanley has thrown for 1,929 yards and 22 touchdowns. Badgers freshman RB Jonathan Taylor has rushed for 1,368 yards and 12 touchdowns.

TCU is coming off a win over Texas. Oklahoma is coming off a high-scoring victory over Oklahoma State. The number one team in the Big 12 takes on the second best team in the conference. A win from Oklahoma seals up their spot in the title game barring an upset and a TCU win will force a tie for first. Horned Frogs QB Kenny Hill has thrown for 2,009 yards and 15 touchdowns. Sooners QB Baler Mayfield has thrown for 3,226 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Notre Dame is coming off a victory over Wake Forest. Miami is coming off a win over Virginia Tech. This game looms big for both teams as it basically means the loser is eliminated from getting into the college football playoff. Fighting Irish RB Josh Adams is rushing for 1,191 yards and nine touchdowns. Hurricanes junior QB Malik Rosier has thrown for 2,273 yards and 19 touchdowns.
