Five District Champions have been crowned and now the only team yet to be crowned is in 4A. The other five will be playing in the first round of the State playoffs. Old Forge had to play a play-in game in order to advance into the state playoffs. Only seven District 2 teams remain and by the end of Friday, it could potentially be down to one or six depending on how the District Champions perform in their playoff games. With all that being said, here is how this past week went in the District Playoffs, the local college football teams' finales and the College Football Top 25 teams.
High School Football Playoffs
District 1/2 Subregional Final
Old Forge 41 Delco Christian 0
Blue Devils RB Brendan Mozeleski rushed for 193 yards and QB Dante Lucarelli threw for 152 yards and two touchdowns as Old Forge blew away Delco Christian. Delco Christian QB Jake Gutkowski threw for 62 yards in the loss.
District 2 2A Championship
Carbondale 35 Carbondale 8
Bucks QB Gavin Darcy threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns and RB Frank Damiano had two rushing touchdowns as Dunmore won another District championship as they knocked off Carbondale. Carbondale RB Nick Vadella rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown.
District 2 3A Championship
Scranton Prep 54 Lake-Lehman 7
Cavaliers QB Leo O'Boyle threw for 137 yards and three touchdowns and RB Matt Gilmartin rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown as Scranton Prep won their third straight 3A District 2 3A title. Black Knights RB Zack Kojandinovich had their only touchdown.
District 2 4A Semifinals
Berwick 48 North Pocono 14
The Bulldogs scored 48 points in the first half as they overwhelmed North Pocono and advanced to the District Championship for the sixth straight season. The Bulldogs' Owen Shoemaker rushed for 145 yards and four touchdowns. Evan Klinger also added 87 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Trojans QB Donny Blaine threw for 122 yards and two touchdowns.
Valley View 40 Coughlin 7
Cougars RB Seth Vernon rushed for 175 yards and a touchdown and Mason Kordish added two rushing touchdowns as Valley View advanced to the District Final for the first time since 2011. The Crusaders' Vincent Todd rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown.
District 2 5A Championship
Valley West 35 Wallenpaupack 7
Spartans QB Rob Dwyer rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns. He also threw a touchdown pass to Dylan Jockel as Valley West won the District Championship. Buckhorns QB Tom McCormick threw for 55 yards and a touchdown to Aiden Maldacker.
District 2 6A Championship
Delaware Valley 31 Hazleton Area 3
Warriors RB Ryan Obiso rushed for 108 yards and four touchdowns and QB Nick Reilly threw for 140 yards as Delaware Valley won the District 2 6A title and stayed undefeated. Cougars QB Sparky Wolk threw for 82 yards.
Local College Football
King's 40 Wilkes 26
Monarchs QB Zach Whitehead finished his King's career with 327 yards and four touchdowns as King's took the Mayor's Cup with a victory over Wilkes. The Monarchs finished their season at 5-5. The Colonels' Jeff Steeber rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown. The Colonels finished their season at 0-10.
FDU-Florham 41 Misericordia 36
FDU's Jagger Green threw a touchdown pass to Malik Presley with two seconds left as they won their season finale over Misericordia. Green threw for 344 yards and five touchdowns. Malik Presley had 15 catches for 236 yards and five touchdowns. Misericordia RB Mark Rainey rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns. The Cougars ended their season at 1-9.
Bloomsburg 31 Clarion 15
Huskies QB Chris Palubinsky threw for 161 yards and three touchdowns as Bloomsburg won their season finale over Clarion. RB Qmac Quiteh rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown in the victory. The Huskies finished their season at 7-4. Clarion QB Jeff Clemens threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns.
College Football Playoff Top 25 games
Stanford 30 (9) Washington 22
RB Bryce Love rushed for 166 yards and three touchdowns as Stanford knocked off No 9 Washington. QB KJ Costello threw for 211 yards in the win. Huskies RB Myles Gaskin rushed for 120 yards and three touchdowns.
(24) LSU 33 Arkansas 10
Derrius Guice rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns as LSU took down Arkansas. QB Danny Etling threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Devwah Whaley rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
(15) Oklahoma State 49 (21) Iowa State 42
Mason Rudolph threw for 376 yards and three touchdowns and Justice Hill rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns as the Cowboys won a high-scoring affair on the road. The Cyclones David Montgomery rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns in the loss.
(13) Ohio State 48 (12) Michigan State 3
Mike Weber rushed for 162 yards and two touchdowns and QB JT Barrett also added two rushing touchdowns as Ohio State blew out Michigan State at home. Barrett also threw for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Spartans QB Brian Lewerke threw for 131 yards in the loss.
(14) Penn State 35 Rutgers 6
Trace McSorley threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns and also added 44 yards and a touchdown as Penn State snapped a two game losing streak with a victory over Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights' Robert Martin rushed for 71 yards.
(23) NC State 17 Boston College 14
Wolf Pack RB Nyheim Hines rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown as NC State took a close road victory over Boston College. Ryan Finley threw for 146 yards in the win. Eagles RB AJ Dillon rushed for 196 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
(18) UCF 49 UConn 24
UCF QB McKenzie Milton threw for 311 yards and two touchdowns and Otis Anderson rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns as UCF knocked off UConn to stay unbeaten at 9-0. UConn QB David Pindell threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns and he also added 96 yards on the ground and a touchdown.
Georgia Tech 28 (17) Virginia Tech 22
Yellow Jackets QB TaQuon Marshall threw for 140 yards and two touchdowns and he also added 64 yards on the ground and two touchdowns as Georgia Tech upset Virginia Tech at home. Sean Savoy had a rushing touchdown for the Hokies.
(10) Auburn 40 (1) Georgia 17
Tigers QB Jarrett Stidham threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns and Kerryon Johnson rushed for 167 yards as the Tigers took down No 1 Georgia at home. Bulldogs QB Jake Fromm threw for 184 yards and a touchdown and Nick Chubb added a rushing touchdown.
(8) Wisconsin 38 Iowa 14
Badgers QB Alex Hornibrook threw for 135 yards and two touchdowns and Jonathan Taylor rushed for 157 yards as 157 yards as Wisconsin took down Iowa. The Hawkeyes Joshua Jackson returned two interceptions for touchdowns.
(4) Clemson 31 Florida State 14
Tigers RB Travis Etienne rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns and Kelly Bryant rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown as Clemson took down Florida State. Bryant also threw for 151 yards. James Blackman threw for 208 yards and a touchdown for Florida State.
(11) USC 38 Colorado 24
Trojans QB Sam Darnold threw for 329 yards and two touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown as USC took down Colorado on the road. Buffaloes QB Steven Montez threw for 376 yards and two touchdowns.
(19) Washington State 33 Utah 25
Washington State QB Luke Falk threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns as the Cougars took down Utah. The Washington State defense forced seven turnovers on the game. Utah RB Zack Moss had two touchdowns on the game.
(2) Alabama 31 (16) Mississippi State 24
Tide QB Jalen Hurts threw for 242 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for a touchdown as Alabama took a close victory over Mississippi State. Damien Harris rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown. Bulldogs RB Aeris Williams rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns.
(25) Northwestern 23 Purdue 13
Wildcats QB Clayton Thorson threw for 296 yards and a touchdown. He also added a rushing touchdown as Northwestern took down Purdue. Boilermakers QB Elijah Sindelar threw for 376 yards and two touchdowns.
(5) Oklahoma 38 (6) TCU 20
Sooners QB Baker Mayfield threw for 333 yards and three touchdowns and Rodney Anderson rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns as Oklahoma is one step closer to the College Football playoff and the Big 12 Championship game as they took down TCU. Horned Frogs QB Kenny Hill threw for 270 yards and a touchdown.
(7) Miami 41 (3) Notre Dame 8
Hurricanes QB Malik Rosier threw for 137 yards and a touchdown and also added a rushing touchdown as Miami upset No 3 Notre Dame at home. DeeJay Dallas rushed for 53 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Irish QB Brandon Wimbush threw for 119 yards and a touchdown.
