Right now, the High School Football Marathon has turned into a full on sprint for positioning and just getting into the postseason. Some teams took giant leaps and made a statement. While some took a step back and lost positioning. As we head toward the final three weeks of the regular season, most of these teams are playing for a playoff spot and/or positioning. Some of the teams are just playing for pride and hope to spoil a few teams' chances at the postseason. With all that being said, here is how last week's High School and College Football games went.
Valley West 38 Abington Heights 7
The big game in District 2 5A was a convincing victory for Valley West. Spartans RB Sean Mikovitch rushed for 213 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Abington Heights QB George Tinsley threw for 166 yards and a touchdown.
Berwick 36 Pittston Area 0
Bulldogs QB Jared Marshman returned from injury and threw for 168 yards and four total touchdowns as Berwick took a shutout victory on the road. Evan Klinger ran for 101 yards and a touchdown. Pittston Area QB Walter Coles threw for only 46 yards on the night.
Carbondale 41 Holy Cross 13
Chargers RB Nick Vadella rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown as Carbondale kept Holy Cross winless with a home victory. Crusaders RB Jason Kopf ran for 92 yards and Dom Possanza ran for 47 yards and a touchdown.
Coughlin 35 Meyers 7
The ground game ran wild against the Mohawks as Jacob Cole ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns as Coughlin knocked off Meyers. Vincent Todd added 80 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Mohawks QB Janssen Wilborn had 84 yards passing and 60 yards rushing with a touchdown.
Crestwood 42 Tunkhannock 18
Comets QB Garrett Swank threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns as the Comets took down the Tigers on the road. RB Patrick Rother ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns. Despite the loss, the Tigers Garrett Hopkins rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown and Logan Cywinski added 113 yards and a touchdown.
Dallas 21 Wallenpaupack 20
Mountaineers QB Michael Starbuck threw for 71 yards and two total touchdowns as Dallas sneaked past Wallenpaupack. RB Danny Meuser ran for 107 yards. Wallenpaupack returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the game.
Delaware Valley 55 Williamsport 17
In the most surprising result of the week, Delaware Valley went on the road and took down Williamsport 55-17. Warriors RB Ryan Obiso rushed for 185 yards and five touchdowns and Dylan Kelly added 62 yards on the ground and a touchdown. He also had six catches for 124 yards. Millionaires QB Joe Fagnano threw for 197 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
Dunmore 35 Susquehanna 0
Dunmore stayed undefeated on the season as they shutout Susquehanna at home. Bucks RB Billy Donvito has rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown. QB Gavin Darcy threw for 113 yards and two touchdowns. Susquehanna's Billy Perry ran for 22 yards.
Northwest 55 Hanover Area 22
Rangers QB David Piestrak threw for 91 yards and two touchdowns and a rushing touchdown as the Rangers kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a victory over Hanover Area. Jake Anderson added 131 yards and a touchdown. Hawkeyes RB David Fedorczyk ran for 235 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
Hazleton Area 34 Scranton 8
Sparky Wolk scored five total touchdowns as the Cougars took down Scranton at home. Wolk threw for 182 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran in for two touchdowns. RB Adrian Otero ran for 113 yards and caught five passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. Knights RB Jerrod Brown rushed for 74 yards.
Athens 52 Holy Redeemer 7
Athens RB Zack Jayne rushed 212 yards and three touchdowns as they took down Holy Redeemer. Kaden Rude threw for 73 yards and two touchdowns. Royals QB JD Turosky rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
Scranton Prep 37 Honesdale 0
Cavaliers RB Ryan Cosgrove rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown as they took the road shutout victory. QB Leo O'Boyle threw for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Hornets RB Beau Freiermuth ran for 33 yards.
Old Forge 32 Lackawanna Trail 20
Old Forge RB Brendan Mozeleski rushed for 209 yards and three touchdowns as the Blue Devils took a big victory over Lackawanna Trail. QB Dante Lucarelli threw for 167 yards and two touchdowns. Lackawanna Trail's Owen Hivner ran for 154 yards and a touchdown.
Mid Valley 21 Montrose 3
Mid Valley RB Joe Chylak ran for 196 yards and two touchdowns and Colin Hazelton added 115 yards and a touchdown as the Spartans took down Montrose. Montrose's John Herman rushed for 65 yards in the loss.
Lake-Lehman 42 Nanticoke 21
Black Knights RB Matt Kurtz ran for 115 yards and two touchdowns as Lake-Lehman took down Nanticoke. QB Nate O'Donnell threw for 91 yards and three touchdowns. Trojans QB Colby Butczynski threw for 108 yards and a touchdown.
Lakeland 32 Riverside 20
Chiefs QB Nico Piraino threw for 152 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns as Lakeland took down Riverside. RB Giovanni Spataro ran for 165 yards and a touchdown. Vikings RB Chase Briskie ran for 157 yards and a touchdown. He also added five catches for 30 yards and a touchdown.
North Pocono 21 Western Wayne 12
Trojans RB JC Gaughan ran for 109 yards and a touchdown as North Pocono handed Western Wayne their first loss of the season. QB Donny Blaine threw for 108 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Western Wayne RB Kobe Sauter ran for 94 yards in the loss.
Valley View 46 West Scranton 20
Valley View RB Seth Vernon ran for 158 yards and three touchdowns as the Cougars took down West Scranton at PNC Field. Mason Kordish added 124 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Invaders RB Andre Cholette ran for 153 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
Wyoming Area 44 GAR 7
Warriors QB Dominic DeLuca threw for 143 yards and three touchdowns as they blew away GAR. RB Donovan O'Boyle ran for 79 yards and a touchdown. GAR QB Ronald Peguero ran for 61 yards and Christian Hernandez ran for GAR's lone touchdown.
King's 63 Misericordia 37
The Monarchs just ripped through the Cougars offensively with a 63-37 victory. King's QB Zach Whitehead threw for 320 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for two touchdowns as well. RB Jordan Downes ran for 165 yards and two touchdowns. Wideout Tyler Marroni had 10 catches for 234 yards and three touchdowns. Misericordia QB Brady Williams threw for 263 yards and five touchdowns.
Widener 30 Wilkes 7
The Colonels fall to 0-6 on the season with a loss on Homecoming to Widener. Widener QB Jespersen threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns. Wilkes QB Nick Geimer threw for 86 yards and rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown.
Kutztown 23 Bloomsburg 7
Kutztown took a road victory on Bloomsburg's homecoming 23-7. Kutztown QB Collin DiGalbo threw for 233 yards and a touchdown. Bloomsburg QB Chris Palubinsky threw for 104 yards and rushed for a touchdown.
Penn State 31 Northwestern 7
The Nittany Lions had a rough first half but the defense played great as they knocked off Northwestern 31-7 to go to 6-0 on the season. Nittany Lions RB Saquon Barkley rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Northwestern RB Matt Alviti had the lone touchdown.
