Down the Stretch

Well week six is past us and there were some games they were closer than others predicted. As the calendar hits October, several teams still are climbing the ladder for a good seed in the District Playoffs or looking to sneak into the playoffs. With all of that being said, let's go into how the High School and College football teams did this past week.

Athens 41 GAR 6
Athens RB Zack Jayne ran for 211 yards and five touchdowns as Athens beat GAR in a Thursday night matchup on the road. GAR QB Ronald Peguero threw for 123 yards and ran in for the Grenadiers' lone score.

Berwick 24 Coughlin 6
Bulldogs QB Alex Force threw for 103 yards and a touchdown. Joseph Lynn ran for 81 yards and a touchdown. The Bulldogs defense held Jacob Cole to 49 yards. The Crusaders Eric Sovan ran for the lone touchdown.

Lackawanna Trail 28 Carbondale 14
Lackawanna Trail RB Owen Hivner ran for 128 yards and a touchdown and Jeffrey Resto ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns as the Lions took down Carbondale. Chargers QB Jordan Tolerico threw for 134 yards and a touchdown.

Dunmore 41 Montrose 0
Dunmore got several contributions from several running backs as they shutout Montrose. Billy Donvito ran for two touchdowns and Frank Damiano, Sean Pietruzkiewicz and Caleb Kilmer each ran in for a touchdown. Maverick Tims was held to 14 yards rushing.

Wyoming Area 54 Hanover Area 14
Warriors QB Dominic DeLuca had a great game on the field as he threw for 214 yards and four touchdowns as they blewout the Hawkeyes. Wideout Marc Minichello caught three passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. Hawkeyes RB David Fedorczyk ran for 154 yards and two touchdowns.

Northwest 42 Holy Redeemer 14
Northwest QB David Piestrak threw for 68 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 43 yards and a touchdown as well as Northwest took down Holy Redeemer. RB Jake Anderson ran for 136 yards and a touchdown. Royals QB JD Turosky ran for 121 yards and a touchdown.

Western Wayne 41 Honesdale 14
Western Wayne QB Matt Valanda threw for 213 yards and two touchdowns as they took down Honesdale. Wideout Dylan Walck caught six passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Hornets RB Beau Freiermuth ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns.

Lake-Lehman 49 Tunkhannock 31
Black Knights RB Trey Borger had a great game running the ball as they beat the Tigers in a high-scoring affair. Borger rushed for 229 yards and three touchdowns and Zach Kojandinovich added 136 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Garrett Hopkins rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers.

Lakeland 27 Susquehanna 6
Chiefs RB Giovanni Spataro ran for 214 yards and three touchdowns as Lakeland beat Susquehanna. QB Nico Piraino threw for 139 yards and a touchdown. Sabers QB CJ Stone threw for 139 yards and rushed for 102 yards. Sam Cosmello scored the lone touchdown for Susquehanna.

North Pocono 28 West Scranton 20
Trojans QB Donny Blaine threw for 80 yards and ran in for a touchdown as North Pocono survived against a winless West Scranton team. The Invaders Andre Cholette rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns.

Old Forge 24 Riverside 12
Old Forge RB Brendan Mozeleski ran for 205 yards and four touchdowns as the Blue Devils stayed unbeaten with a win over Riverside. QB Dante Lucarelli threw for 120 yards. Vikings QB Brayden Thiel threw for 147 yards and had a rushing touchdown.

Williamsport 38 Scranton 34
Williamsport QB Joe Fagnano threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown as the Millionaires took down previously unbeaten Scranton. RB Latrelle Jackson rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown. Scranton RB Rheyse Green rushed for 100 yards and four touchdowns.

Wallenpaupack 28 Valley West 21
Buckhorns QB Tom McCormick threw for 117 yards and a touchdown as Wallenpaupack won a big 5A matchup. RB Nick Ruggieri ran for 76 yards and a touchdown. The Spartans Darrian Tyson caught seven passes for 108 yards and a touchdown.

Pittston Area 51 Abington Heights 34
Patriots QB Walter Coles threw for 364 yards and three touchdowns as Pittston Area took down Abington Heights. He also rushed for two touchdowns. Wideout Kevin Krawczyk caught 10 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns. Comets QB George Tinsley 371 yards and four touchdowns and Trey Koehler had 11 catches for 216 yards and two touchdowns.

Mid Valley 49 Holy Cross 7
Mid Valley RB Joe Chylak rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns as the Spartans took down winless Holy Cross. Crusaders QB Jake Wiercinski threw for 92 yards and rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Scranton Prep 35 Valley View 34
The Cavaliers Matt Gilmartin rushed for 228 yards and two touchdowns as Scranton Prep escaped an upset bid from Valley View. QB Leo O'Boyle threw for 152 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 50 yards and two touchdowns. Cougars RB Seth Vernon ran for 141 yards and three touchdowns.

Delaware Valley 28 Hazleton Area 14
Warriors RB Ryan Obiso ran for 133 yards and a touchdown as Delaware Valley stayed undefeated as they beat Hazleton Area. QB Nick Reilly threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns Cougars QB Sparky Wolk threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns

Dallas 42 Meyers 0
Mountaineers RB Danny Meuser ran for 164 yards and three touchdowns as the Mountaineers took down Meyers. QB Michael Starbuck threw for 43 yards and a touchdown. Mohawks QB Janssen Wilborn threw for 69 yards and rushed for 45 yards.

Albright 34 King's 31
Albright QB Alec Vignola threw for 386 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for two touchdowns in a comeback victory. King's QB Zach Whitehead threw for 359 yards and three touchdowns. RB Jordan Downes ran for 101 yards and a touchdown.

Lycoming 34 Wilkes 7
Lycoming QB Chase Williams threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns as they scored 34 straight points to take the victory over Wilkes. RB Chase Williams rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown. Shane Deemer rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown.

Stevenson 65 Misericordia 7
Stevenson QB Dan Williams threw for 396 yards and five touchdowns as Stevenson blew away Misericordia. Wideout Preston Addo caught six passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Misericordia's Brady Williams ran in for the team's only score.

Bloomsburg 28 Millersville 21
Huskies RB Alex Gooden rushed for 164 yards and a touchdown as Bloomsburg took a road victory over Millersville. Qmac Quiteh ran for 82 yards and a touchdown. Millersville QB Tony Staffieri threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns.

Penn State 45 Indiana 14
Saquon Barkley started off by going 98 yards on the opening kickoff as Penn State never looked back in a victory over Indiana. QB Trace McSorley threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns. Barkley also added a touchdown pass in the victory. Indiana wideout Ian Thomas caught five passes for 91 yards.
