For a while, I heard the NFL had quite a bit of parity in it with the fact that they had a salary cap and anyone can beat anyone. The last few years I found it hard to believe that there was parity in the NFL because the same teams seemed to be in it. Through five weeks, the AFC East is in a three way tie with the Bills, Jets and Patriots like we all predicted would happen. The Ravens despite getting blown out in the last two weeks, beat the Raiders and are tied for first place with the Steelers who lost to the Jaguars this week. The Jacksonville Jaguars lead the AFC South with the others only a game back. The Kansas City Chiefs are the NFL's only undefeated team remaining. The Eagles lead the NFC East, which shouldn't be surprising with the emergence of Carson Wentz. The Packers with Aaron Rodgers seem to always be in the hunt for the NFC North title and a chance to get to the Super Bowl. The Carolina Panthers look like the team from 2015 that got to the Super Bowl with Cam Newton having a bounce back year but Atlanta is only a half game back of the Panthers. In the NFC West, the Seahawks look like the best team and the Rams look much improved and Todd Gurley looks like the back from 2015. With all that being said, here are the games from this past week.
Colts 26 49ers 23 (OT)
Adam Vinatieri kicked a 52 yard field goal in overtime to give the Colts the victory in overtime. QB Jacoby Brissett threw for 314 yards and had a rushing touchdown in the victory. Wideout TY Hilton had seven catches for 177 yards. 49ers QB Brian Hoyer threw for 353 yards and two touchdowns in the loss as the 49ers go to 0-5 on the season.
Jets 17 Browns 14
The Jets took their third straight victory as they knocked off winless Cleveland. QB Josh McCown threw for 194 yards and two touchdowns. The defense picked off two passes in the victory. QB Kevin Hogan came in during the second half replacing rookie Deshone Kizer and threw for 194 yards and two touchdowns.
Eagles 34 Cardinals 7
The Eagles improved to 4-1 as they knocked off the Cardinals at home 34-7. Carson Wentz was great, throwing for 304 yards and four touchdowns. Wideout Nelson Agholor caught four passes for 93 yards and a touchdown. Cardinals QB Carson Palmer threw for 291 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
Dolphins 16 Titans 10
The Dolphins snuck past the Titans who were without Marcus Mariota who got injured last week. Dolphins QB Jay Cutler threw a touchdown pass to Jarvis Landry in the victory. The Dolphinss held DeMarco Murray to 58 yards rushing on the game. The replacement for Marcus Mariota was Matt Cassel who threw for 141 yards and a touchdown.
Bengals 20 Bills 16
Bengals QB Andy Dalton threw for 328 yards and a touchdown and wideout AJ Green had seven catches for 189 yards and a touchdown as the Bengals took down the Bills. The Bengals defense held LeSean McCoy in check. McCoy only rushed for 63 yards and QB Tyrod Taylor threw for 166 yards a touchdown.
Chargers 27 Giants 22
In a battle of winless teams, the Chargers would come out on top. QB Philip Rivers would throw for 258 yards and three touchdowns. RB Melvin Gordon would rush for 105 yards and also caught two touchdown passes. Giants QB Eli Manning threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns. The Giants unfortunately lost two of their top wide receivers for the season. Losing Odell Beckham Jr and Brandon Marshall.
Jaguars 30 Steelers 9
The Jaguars picked off QB Ben Rothlisberger five times as the Jaguars took the road victory in Pittsburgh. RB Leonard Fournette ran for two touchdowns, including a 90 yarder. He ran for 181 yards in total for the game. Steelers kicker Chris Boswell kicked three field goals and wideout Antonio Brown had 10 catches for 157 yards.
Panthers 27 Lions 24
Panthers QB Cam Newton threw for 355 yards and three touchdowns. TE Ed Dickson had five catches for 175 yards. The Lions would almost make a comeback but the Panthers would convert on third down before the two minute warning to seal the victory. Lions QB Matthew Stafford threw for 229 yards and two touchdowns, both to TE Darren Fells.
Ravens 30 Raiders 17
Ravens RB Javorius Allen rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown. QB Joe Flacco threw for 222 yards as they took the road victory in Oakland. Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch ran for a touchdown and QB EJ Manuel threw for 159 yards and a touchdown.
