Chiefs defense dominates Broncos

The Denver Broncos came into Kansas City on Monday night to take on the Chiefs. The Chiefs are coming in on a two game losing after starting the season 5-0. The Broncos defense looks to improve on their 3-3 record and get to above .500. The Chiefs are coming off a heartbreaking last second loss to Oakland on Thursday night. Who would come out on top in this Monday night football division rivalry game? Let's get to it! The Broncos would start with the ball and would go three and out to start the game. On the next Chiefs possession, they would face a third and 9 and Alex Smith would find Travis Kelce for 19 yards but that was all they would get and be forced to punt. On second and 6, the Broncos would fumble and Marcus Peters would recover and return it 45 yards for the touchdown. The PAT would make it 7-0 Chiefs. The Broncos would go three and out once again. The Chiefs would face a third and 2 and the pass would fall incomplete but an unnecessary roughness penalty would give the Chiefs a first down and then on second and 10, Smith would find Kelce for 16. On the next play, Smith would find Kelce again for a 29 yard score. On the next Denver possession, the pass would be intercepted by Peters. Kareem Hunt would go for 15 on the first play of the drive. Smith would find Kelce for 19 on second and 10 for a first and goal at the 9 yard line. On second and goal, the Broncos would get an interception by Stewart. At the start of the second quarter they would face a third and 1 and Trevor Siemian would go to Virgil Green for 16. The Broncos would settle on a Brandon McManus 27 yard field goal to cut the lead to 14-3. The Chiefs would go three and goal on their next drive. The Chiefs defense with a three and out of their own. The Chiefs would tack on a field goal on their next possession to increase the lead to 17-3. The Chiefs would continue their great game with an interception by Parker, their third takeaway on the game. The Broncos would get the ball back on their next possession on a fumble and recovered by Denver. The Broncos couldn't capitalize and would go three and out as we headed to halftime. The Chiefs would start with the ball to start the second half and would go three and out but the Broncos would muff the punt and the Chiefs would recover and would result in a field goal to make it 20-3 Kansas City. The Broncos would go on a nine play drive and would result in a field goal that would cut the lead to 20-6 Chiefs. The Denver defense would force a three and out and on the next Denver possession, the Broncos would go 10 plays that would result in a Booker touchdown. The PAT would cut the Chiefs lead to 20-13. The Chiefs would answer with a field goal by Harrison Butker to make it 23-13 in the fourth quarter. The Broncos would face a fourth and 4 and the pass would fall incomplete and Kansas City would get the ball back. The Chiefs would get a 51 yard field goal by Butker to increase the lead to 26-13. The next Broncos possession would result in an interception by Acker. The possession would result in a 42 yard field goal by Butker. The Broncos would try to stay in it on a ten play drive that would result in a touchdown from Trevor Siemian to AJ Derby from 11 yards out. The two point conversion would fail as the Chiefs would lead 29-19. The Broncos would try an onside kick and the Chiefs would get it and try to end the game but the Broncos would get the stop and get the ball back with 48 seconds to go. The Broncos would fail to score as the Chiefs took down the Broncos to snap their two game losing streak.

Thoughts on the game: The Kansas City defense was impressive, forcing five turnovers on the game. Chiefs TE Travis Kelce did well. He has seven catches for 133 yards and one touchdown. The Denver defense was pretty good themselves but couldn't withstand the turnovers their offense had. The Chiefs would potentially be a very good team but need to get on a streak.

Thoughts on the game: The Steelers defense just bent but didn't break. They denied the Lions the end zone all game including two fourth down stops at the end zone. The Lions were just as good on defense, only giving up the big play in the third quarter and only giving up two touchdowns.

Feast or Famine

This week, there were teams that either scored in bunches or teams that failed to score touchdowns. By the numbers, six teams failed to score a touchdown. Along with those six teams, three other teams only were able to get only one touchdown. That's nine total teams that either didn't score a touchdown or scored only once. Seven teams were able to score 30 points or more. Now why does it look like this? Could it possibly be the defenses are good or the offenses are bad? Depends on the team honestly. The Titans couldn't score a touchdown against the Browns and only won in overtime because the Browns also failed to score a touchdown. The Rams defense is actually considered one of the best and they shutout the Cardinals and Carson Palmer left that game with a broken arm. Now these are just examples. So with all that being said, let's look at what happened this past week.

Bills 30 Buccaneers 27
Bills RB LeSean McCoy rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns as Buffalo took down Tampa Bay. QB Tyrod Taylor threw for 268 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Tampa Bay QB Jamesis Winston threw for 384 yards and three touchdowns in the loss.

The Bears Eddie Jackson returned a fumble and an interception for a touchdown as the Bears took their second straight win. Jordan Howard rushed for 65 yards. Panthers QB Cam Newton threw for 211 yards and rushed for 50 yards.

Titans 12 Browns 9 (OT)
Ryan Succop kicked four field goals including the game-winner in overtime as the Titans kept the Browns winless on the season. Derrick Morgan recorded 1.5 sacks in the victory. Browns rookie defensive end Myles Garrett recorded a sack and had four tackles.

Saints 26 Packers 17
Saints QB Drew Brees threw for 331 yards and two total touchdowns as the Saints took their fourth straight victory with a win on the road over Green Bay. Mark Ingram had 105 yards and a touchdown on the game. Packers RB Aaron Jones rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown.

Vikings 24 Ravens 16
RB Latavius Murray rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown and QB Case Keenum would throw for 188 yards as the Vikings stayed atop the NFC North with a home victory over the Ravens. Ravens QB Joe Flacco threw for 186 yards in the loss.

Chargers 21 Broncos 0
Chargers QB Philip Rivers threw for 183 yards and two touchdowns and Travis Benjamin returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown as the Chargers shutout the Broncos. Broncos RB CJ Anderson rushed for 44 yards in the loss.

Seahawks 24 Giants 7
QB Russell Wilson threw for 334 yards and three touchdowns and the Seattle defense held the Giants to seven points as the Seahawks took the victory on the road. Wideout Doug Baldwin had nine catches for 92 yards and a touchdown. Giants QB Eli Manning threw for 134 yards and a touchdown to Evan Engram.

Eagles pull away to knock off Redskins

The Washington Redskins came into Philadelphia on Monday night to take on the Eagles. The Redskins looked to avenge their loss at home from Week 1. Carson Wentz and the Eagles looked to improve on their 5-1 and sweep the season series with Washington. Who would come out on top on this rivalry game on Monday Night Football? Let's get into the game! The Redskins would start with the ball. On the second play of the drive, Kirk Cousins would go to Vernon Davis for a 31 yard completion. On a second and 9, Cousins would find Jamison Crowder for 20. The Eagles defense would hold Washington to a 27 yard field goal by Nick Rose. The next Eagles possession would result in an interception by Dunbar. The Redskins were unable to capitalize as they would go three and out. The Eagles offense would go three and out. On second and 7 of the Redskins possession, Cousins would find Paul for 32 but that was all they could get as they would be forced to punt. The Eagles would face a third and 4 and Carson Wentz would find Alshon Jeffrey for 13 then Wentz would go for 11 yards and a first down as the first quarter comes to an end. Washington would get called for a facemask for another first down but the Eagles would have to attempt for a 50 yard field goal attempt by Jake Elliott to tie the game at 3. The Redskins would get the ball and on the first play, Cousins would go for 11 then would go to Doctson for 17 and then a pass to Vernon Davis for 31. On a second and 6, Cousins would go to Crowder for 8 then a holding penalty on the Eagles for a first and goal at the five and it would result in a seven yard touchdown pass from Cousins to Chris Thompson for a touchdown. The Eagles would go three and out on the next drive. The defense of the Eagles would give them a Washington three and out. On the next Eagles possession, Wentz would go to Mack Hollins for a 64 yard touchdown pass. The Redskins would go three and out as we headed toward the two-minute warning. Wentz would go to Zach Ertz for 46 yards after Wentz went for 11 yards on the first play. The drive would end on a four yard touchdown pass from Wentz to Ertz. The PAT would give the Eagles a 17-10 lead and that would be the score as headed to halftime. The Eagles would start with the ball and would get a nine yard touchdown pass from Wentz to Corey Clement to increase the lead to 24-10. The Redskins possession would end in a punt. The Eagles would go three and out unable to increase their lead. The next possession for Washington would result in a five yard touchdown pass from Cousins to Jordan Reed to cut the lead to 24-17 as the third quarter came to a close. The Eagles would score early in the fourth quarter as Wentz went to Nelson Agholor for the 10 yard touchdown pass to make it 31-17. The next possession for the Redskins would end in an interception by Corey Graham. The pick would end in a 42 yard field goal by Elliott to make it 34-17. The Redskins would go on a long drive that would result in a Kirk Cousins pass to Jordan Reed for a 12 yard touchdown. The Redskins would go for an onside kick and the Eagles would recover. LeGarette Blount would go for 21 yards on a second and 14 and the Eagles would go for a 45 yard field goal and miss but the Redskins would fail to get another first down as the Eagles improved to 6-1 on the season as they completed the season sweep of the Washington Redskins.

Thoughts on the game: Early on, it looked like the Eagles could've fallen to Washington at home but they prevailed in the second half to take the win. Carson Wentz looked incredible once again in the victory, only throwing an early interception. Hopefully the injuries the Eagles suffered tonight aren't too serious but it doesn't look good for Jason Peters.

Patriots shutout Falcons in Foggy Rematch

It was a rematch of last year's Super Bowl as the Atlanta Falcons traveled to Foxboro to take on the New England Patriots. The Patriots could stay in first place all alone if they get the home win and the Falcons can stay tied for first place with a win. Who would come out on top in the premier matchup on Sunday night football? We'll find out soon enough. The Patriots would start with the ball and they would get a first down after an Atlanta holding penalty. The drive would stall and result in a Patriots punt. The Falcons would start out on offense with a three and out. The Patriots would punt again on their next possession as they went three and out. The Falcons would drive down and go for a 37 yard field goal and the kick would be blocked. The quarter would come to an end with a scoreless tie. The Patriots drive would end in a Tom Brady to Brandin Cooks 11 yard touchdown pass. The PAT would make it 7-0 Patriots. The Patriots would stay strong and get another three and out. The Patriots would face a third and 8 and Brady would go to Rob Gronkowski for 27 yards. The Patriots would go for a Stephen Gostkowski 29 yard field goal and make it for a 10-0 Patriots lead. The Falcons would go for for it on fourth and 6 around midfield and the pass would fall incomplete and the Patriots would take over and the next Patriots drive would end in a Tom Brady going to James White for a two yard score. The PAT would make it 17-0 and would lead by that score as we go to halftime. The Falcons would get the ball to start the second half and looked like the Falcons were going to score but had to settle with a 36 yard field goal attempt but it was missed. The Patriots would drive down the field to get a 21 yard field goal by Gostkowski to make it 20-0. Devonta Freeman and Julio Jones would help the Falcons drive down the field as the third quarter came to an end. They would face a fourth and 1 and the Patriots would deny them the end zone. The Patriots would drive once again and settle for a 38 yarder from Gostkowski to make it 23-0. The Falcons would break the shutout with a touchdown pass from Matt Ryan to Julio Jones. The Patriots would be able to run out the clock thanks to a 13 yard run by Dion Lewis as they headed to the two-minute warning. The Patriots would end up taking the rematch by beating the Falcons 23-7.

Thoughts on the game: The Patriots played one of their best games on defense of the season. They stopped the Falcons on fourth down twice and look like they're turning the corner and look like they could take the AFC East.

Valley West Blitzes Past Crestwood

The Wyoming Valley West Spartans came to Mountain Top to take on the Crestwood Comets. The Comets are on a three game winning streak and hope to get their fourth straight win. The Spartans are looking to get some momentum after a loss to rival Berwick. Let's start up the action. The Spartans would start off with the ball and on third and 7, the snap was botched and recovered by Crestwood at the Spartans 28 yard line. On the first play, Kevin Klusewitz would go 27 yards for the score. The PAT would make it 7-0 Comets. On the next Valley West possession, Sean Mikovitch would go for 15 on third and 5 but Valley West would fail to move the chains and would be forced to punt. Swank's pass would be intercepted on the second play of the next Crestwood drive. The Spartans drive would result in a Jake Gurtis field goal that would cut the Crestwood lead to 7-3. Crestwood would get back to it on the next drive. Swank would go to Klusewitz for 23 on a second and 8. Then on another second and 8, Swank would go to Klusewitz for 7 and the Spartans would get called for an unsportsmanlike conduct. The Comets would fail to get another first down and would punt the ball back to Valley West. Jake Shusta would go to Sean Blaski for 12 on the first play of the drive. The Spartans would face a third and 6 as we get to the end of the first quarter. The Spartans would be one yard short and go for it on fourth and 1 and Mikovitch would go for six yards. They would face another fourth and 1 and Mikovitch would go for 28 and the Spartans would get a one yard touchdown run by Rob Dwyer. The PAT would give the Spartans a 10-7 lead. Swank's pass would be intercepted by Blaski. The Spartans would face a third and 2 and Dwyer would run for four yards for the first down. On the next play, Carson Canavan would go for 18, then Mikovitch would go for 11. On a second and 13, Dwyer would go for a 23 yard touchdown for his second of the game. The PAT would make it 17-7 Valley West. On the next Crestwood possession, the Comets would fumble and the Spartans' Zach Davies would recover it and return it for the touchdown. The two point conversion would make it 25-7 in favor of Valley West. The Spartans would recover the kickoff on a short kick was recovered by the Spartans. The drive would result in Dwyer's third touchdown of the game. A 14 yard run for the score. The PAT would make it 32-7. The game would go to halftime with Valley West leading 32-7. The Comets had several chances in get back in it but the Valley West defense held them to nothing in the third quarter. The Spartans would add one more score as Sean Mikovitch would go in for a touchdown. The PAT would make it 39-7. The Spartans would take the victory 39-7.

Thoughts on the game: The difference in the game was turnovers and penalties. Two of their turnovers resulted in touchdowns. Spartans QB Rob Dwyer had a great game, scoring three rushing touchdowns as did Sean Mikovitch who had a touchdown run as well. If there was one thing I didn't like however was the amount of penalties on both teams. Both teams need to clean it up if they want to make a run in the District Playoffs.

Raiders win on last play and overcome the Chiefs

Coming off their first loss of the season, the Kansas City Chiefs traveled to Oakland to play the Raiders on Thursday night. The Raiders season has not gone as they had hoped and looking to right the ship. Would the Chiefs rebound from their first loss of the season or would the Raiders snap a three game losing streak? We'll find out soon enough. The Chiefs would start with the ball and face a third and 1 early and Kareem Hunt goes for two yards. Alex Smith would go to Robinson for 16 yards on second and 11 and then Smith went to Robinson for 16 on the next play. The Chiefs would have to settle for a 53 yard field goal by Harrison Butker to give the Chiefs an early 3-0 lead. On the Raiders first play, Derek Carr would go to Amari Cooper for 12, then on second and 9, Carr would go to Jared Cook for 24 then on the next play, Carr would find Amari Cooper for a 38 yard touchdown. The PAT would make it 7-3 Raiders. On second and 4 of the Chiefs next possession, Hunt would go for 34 yards on the run. The Chiefs would face a third and 10 and the pass would be a few yards short but the Raiders would be called for roughing the passer to keep the drive alive. Smith would find Hunt for 13 on the next play then Smith would find Travis Kelce for a 10 yard touchdown. The Chiefs would take the lead at 10-7 after the PAT. The Raiders would face a third and 4 and Carr would find Cordarelle Patterson for nine. They faced a third and 3 and Carr would find Michael Crabtree for five yards then on the next play, Carr would find Cooper on their second score of the game. This time from 45 yards out. The Raiders would take a 14-10 lead. The Chiefs would go three and out as the first quarter came to an end. The Raiders would face a third and 7 and looked like a fumble recovered by the Chiefs but an illegal contact would negate the play and give the Raiders a first down. On a third and 12, Carr would go to Crabtree for 17 then Carr would find Cooper for 14 on the next play. They would fail to advance the ball any further after an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and would be forced to punt and would down it at the Chiefs one yard line. On the first play, Smith would find Robinson for 33 then on a second and 8, Smith would go to Tyreek Hill for a 64 yard touchdown. The PAT would make it 17-14 Chiefs. On the next Raiders possession, Carr would find Richard for 14 on third and 7 then Carr would find Roberts for 15. The Raiders faced a third and 10 and the Chiefs would get the stop but the Chiefs were called for unsportsmanlike conduct but the Raiders would lose Marshawn Lynch due to an altercation with the refs and would be ejected. They would get a first and 25 and the Raiders would fail to get a first and would attempt a 53 yard field goal and the kick would be blocked. The next Chiefs possession would result in a 39 yard field goal by Butker to make it 20-14. The Raiders would drive down the field before halftime but the field goal was missed and the Chiefs would lead 20-14 at halftime. They would face a third and 3 and Smith would find Robinson for seven and then a third and 12 and Smith would find Wilson that was deflected and went in his hands and would score from 63 yards out. The PAT would make it 27-21 Kansas City. The next Raiders possession would end in a punt. The Chiefs would add to their lead with a 37 yard field goal by Butker to make it 30-21. The third quarter would come to a close as the Chiefs took a 30-21 lead to the fourth quarter. The Raiders would cut the lead on a field goal to make it 30-24. The Raiders would get a stop and the Chiefs would punt the ball back to the Raiders. The Raiders would get one last chance. The Raiders would take over and Carr would go to Cooper for a first down as we headed to the two-minute warning. After an offensive pass interference, Carr would go to Cooper again for a first down. They would face a fourth and 11 and Carr would find Cook for the first down. Carr would go to Cook who would make an incredible catch and be down at the one yard line. It looked like the Raiders scored a touchdown but they were called for pass interference and it would come down to one final play. The pass would fall incomplete but the Chiefs were called for holding and thus would cause an untimed play and Carr's pass would fall incomplete as Patterson would go out of bounds but the Chiefs would get called for holding to give them another untimed play. Carr would go to Crabtree for the touchdown and they would go for the PAT and kick would be good and the Raiders overcome a nine point fourth quarter deficit to knock off the Chiefs 31-30.

Thoughts on the game: Wow what a game!! The Raiders overcoming a nine point deficit was the most impressive win I've seen in a while. Raiders QB Derek Carr threw for 417 yards and three touchdowns. He had a very impressive final drive as he led them down the field for the game-winning score. The Raiders got several chances helped by two holding penalties at the end but they capitalized on the final play.

On second and 7, Derrick Henry would go for 8 then Mariota would go to Taylor for 8 on second and 3. They would fail to get a first down and would settle for another field goal by Ryan Succop from 40 yards out. On the next Colts drive, Gore would go for 12 on the first play. They would face a third and 2 and Brissett would find Turbin for 5 as we headed to the two-minute warning. Brissett would go to Moncrief for 12 on second and 5 then on another second down, Brissett went to Doyle for 11. The Tennessee defense would answer with a three and out to get their offense the ball back. The Colts defense would force their first three and out of the game to get the ball back. The Titans would get a fumble in good field position. Mariota would go to Matthews for 27 on the first play for a first and goal at the 4. However, the Titans would be denied the end zone again and would settle for Ryan Succop's fifth field goal of the game. The Colts would go three and out once again and the Titans would take over. Mariota would go to Decker for 21 on the first play of the drive. They would face a fourth and 1 and Mariota would QB sneak and get the first down. The Titans would face a third and 12 and Mariota would go to Matthews for 16 and Mariota would go to Henry for 14 on the next play for another first down. They would face a third and 10 and Brissett would find Turbin for nine yards and they go for it on fourth and 1 and Brissett would try and run and wouldn't get the first down. The Colts would challenge the call and the call would stand and lose a timeout. Derrick Henry would get 10 yards on the next two plays for a first down and the Colts would use both their timeouts. Derrick Henry would go 72 yards for a touchdown on third and 5 as the PAT would make it 36-22 and would win by that score over the Indianapolis Colts.

Thoughts on the game: The Titans just dominated in the fourth quarter. After not scoring a touchdown for three quarter, they would go for three touchdowns in the fourth. Both of Tennessee's running backs each scored a touchdown. Even though the Titans weren't scoring touchdowns, they were moving the ball very well. Overall, I thought the Colts played well for three quarters of the game, just came up short in the fourth quarter.

Giants upset Broncos for first win

The New York Giants are looking for their first win of the season as they traveled to Denver to take on the Broncos. The Giants would be without several players, including wideouts Odell Beckham Jr and Brandon Marshall who are both out for the season. The Broncos looked to get to 4-1 on the season and get within a half game of first place in the AFC West. Who would come out on top? Will the Giants get their first win or will Denver get to 4-1 on the year? Let get to it! The Broncos would start with the ball and would go three and out to start the game. The Giants would face a third and six and Eli Manning would go to Evan Engram for 11 yards and a fresh set of downs. On second and 8, Manning would find Orleans Darkwa for 13 and into Denver territory. Manning would find Adams for six yards on second and 5 for another first down. On a second and 9, Manning would find Engram for 26 for a first and goal at the 8. The Broncos defense would keep the Giants out of the end zone and hold them to a Rosa 25 yard field goal and would lead 3-0 with 6:58 remaining in the first quarter. The Giants would get another Denver three and out. The Denver defense would get a three and out on the next drive. On the next Denver possession, Trevor Siemian would go to Emmanuel Sanders for 33 on a second and 8 to the Denver 22. The Giants would hold them to a field goal attempt by Brandon McManus and would miss the field goal. The Giants would face a third and 5 as the first quarter came to an end. A false start would back the Giants to a third and 10 and Manning would go to Roger Lewis for 15. Darkwa would go for 47 yards on the next play to the Denver 13 yard line. On third and 2, Manning would go for Engram for a five yard score. The PAT would make 10-0 with 12:30 remaining in the second quarter. CJ Anderson would go for two yards on a second and 2. On the next set of downs, they would face a third and 7 and the Giants would get called for pass interference. On third and 10, Siemian's pass would be intercepted by Landon Collins and returned to their own 35. The Giants were unable to capitalize as they would go three and out once again. On the Denver possession, Siemian would go to Virgil Green for 24 to their own  49. They would face a third and 9 and Siemian would go to Demaryius Thomas for 40 to the Giants 10 yard line. The Giants would hold them to a 28 yard field goal by Brandon McManus. The Denver defense would get another three and out. The Broncos would face a third and 9 and Siemian would run for nine yards for the first down. They would face a third and 10 and Siemian would get picked off by Janoris Jenkins and returned 43 yards for the touchdown. The PAT would make it 17-3 Giants with 48 seconds left and that is how it was as we headed to halftime. The Giants would get the second half kickoff and on the first play of the drive, Darkwa would go 14 for a first down but that was all the Giants could get and they would be forced to punt. Siemian started off with an 11 yard pass to Sanders for 11 but the Broncos couldn't move the chains anymore and would punt the ball once again. On the Giants possession, Manning would find Engram for 21 on second and 8. The Giants failed to move the ball anymore and the Broncos would hold them to a 51 yard attempt and Rosa would make it and lead 20-3 with 8:08 remaining in the third quarter. Each team would trade possessions where they would get enough for a field goal attempt and each attempt was blocked. Siemian would find Sanders for eight yards on a second and 7 but Denver would face a fourth and 5 as the third quarter came to an end and would go for it at the start of the fourth quarter and Siemian would find Thomas for the first down but would fumble and the Giants would recover. The Giants once again couldn't capitalize as they would three and out again. Siemian would find Booker for 17 on second and 10. On second and 2, Siemian would find Thomas for 21 yards. They would go for it on fourth down and 16 and the Giants would get called for pass interference. The Broncos would go for it on fourth and goal at the 1 and the Giants would stuff CJ Anderson to get a turnover on downs. The Giants would get the ball at their own 1 and Darkwa would go 15 yards for a first down for more comfort but that was all they could muster as the Giants would punt once again. Siemian would go to Booker for 23 on second down then go to Taylor for 11. Siemian would go to Heuerman for a 13 yard touchdown. The PAT would cut the lead to 20-10 with 4:07 left. The Broncos would try for an onside kick and wouldn't be able to recover it. The Giants would get a field goal by Rosas to make it 23-10.
That would be the final score as the Giants stunned the Denver Broncos 23-10.

Thoughts on the game: Well, the Giants went out and surprised everyone by beating the Broncos without their top three receivers and several key players on their defense out. The defense forced three Denver turnovers. Orleans Darkwa had a great game on the ground for the Giants. He went for 117 yards.

Thoughts on the game: This was a fun game. Both teams looked really good, especially Eagles QB Carson Wentz who threw three touchdowns. The defense got three interceptions and played great overall. I think both of these teams could be contenders in their division especially the Eagles.
