Turley Terrific as Red Wings Take Down Railriders

The Railriders and the Red Wings continued their three game series on Tuesday night in Rochester. The Red Wings sent Nik Turley to the mound. The Railriders sent touted prospect Chance Adams to the mound. Gleyber Torres drew a two out walk but a strikeout would keep the Railriders off the board in the top of the first. Adams threw a 1-2-3 first inning for the Railriders. Donovan Solano hit a one out single to center but back to back strikeouts got Turley out of the inning. Adams threw another 1-2-3 inning for the Railriders. Tyler Wade hit a one out single to left but Turley once again got back to back strikeouts kept the Railriders off the board once again. Bengie Gonzalez drew a two out walk but a groundout would end the inning. Tyler Austin hit a leadoff ground-rule double to right, but Turley would retiring the next three batters to end the Top of the fourth. JB Shuck drew a leadoff walk but a double play and a strikeout kept the game scoreless after four. Tyler Wade hit a two out double to left then Dustin Fowler followed with a walk but Turley would get his 13th strikeout to end the Top half of the fifth. Tommy Field hit a one out single to left but a flyout and a groundout would end the fifth. Turley threw a 1-2-3 sixth for the Red Wings. Zack Granite hit a one out double to left then JB Shuck followed with a walk. Mitch Graver would get the Red Wings on the board with a three run home run to left for a 3-0 Rochester lead. ByungHo Park drew a walk but a double play would end the inning. Drew Rucinski came in to pitch the 7th for the Red Wings and would throw a 1-2-3 inning for the Red Wings to hold the three run lead. JP Feyereisen came in to pitch the seventh for the Railriders. Leonardo Reginatto drew a one out walk then advanced to second on an errant pickoff throw. After a strikeout, Gonzalez would draw a walk and the Railriders made another call to the bullpen and brought out Joe Mantiply. Granite would bring home Reginatto on a single to center for a 4-0 Red Wings lead. Granite would steal second on the next batter, then Shuck would reach on an error and Gonzalez would score to make it 5-0. Garner would reach on an error and Granite would score to increase the lead to 6-0. The Railriders would go to JR Graham in relief and he would get a forceout to end the inning. Rucinski would pitch a 1-2-3 eighth inning. Matt Hague would hit a leadoff single. After a strikeout, Reginatto hit a single to center. JR Murphy would hit a ground rule double to right, scoring Hague to make it 7-0. Gonzalez would bring home Reginatto on an RBI groundout to make it 8-0 Rochester. Granite would hit an infield single then Shuck would draw a walk to load the bases. A strikeout would end the eighth. Michael Tonkin would come in to pitch the ninth for the Red Wings. Tyler Austin would draw a leadoff walk but would forced out at second on a Clint Frazier groundout. After a groundout, Frazier would be at second and Mason Williams would bring him home on a single to make it 8-1. Cito Culver would follow with a single to right but Tonkin would get a strikeout to end the game as the Red Wings take the victory 8-1 over the Railriders.

Thoughts on the game: Nik Turley pitched amazing for the Red Wings. He started off the game by getting his first ten outs by strikeout. He ended up striking out 15 on the game. Chance Adams pitched well til the sixth where he ended up in some trouble then he allowed a 3 run home run. Zack Granite had a great game with three hits with a double and an RBI. Tyler Wade had a great game for the Railriders, getting two hits.

News: Crestwood grad Matt Wotherspoon was called up this afternoon to the Railriders from Double-A Trenton.
