Syracuse takes first game over Railriders

The SWB Railriders and the Syracuse Chiefs started up a four game set in Syracuse. Edwin Jackson got the start for the Chiefs. The Railriders went to Joe Mantiply. Jackson started the game with a 1-2-3 top of the first. Stevenson led off with a single for Syracuse. Stevenson stole second then advanced to third on a throwing error. After a groundout, Stevenson would score on a Brandon Snyder sacrifice fly to left to make it 1-0 Chiefs. A strikeout would end the inning. Jake Cave drew a two out walk but a strikeout would end the Top of the second. Neftali Soto led off with a single then Alejandro De Aza drew a walk. The runners would move to second and third on a passed ball. Irving Falu would bring home Soto on an RBi's Fielder's Choice to third for a 2-0 Syracuse lead. Spencer Kieboom drew a walk. Eddy Rodriguez would throw out Falu at third. A strikeout would end the inning. Jackson threw a 1-2-3 third inning for the Chiefs. Mantiply answered with another 1-2-3 inning for the Railriders. Miguel Andujar and Ji-Man Choi drew one out walks. A forceout and a flyout. Nestor Cortes comes in to pitch for the Railriders. De Aza hit a single with two outs but a groundout would end the inning. Sammy Solis came in to pitch for the Chiefs. Rodriguez hit a single with two outs. Tyler Wade followed with a single then Dustin Fowler brought home Rodriguez to cut the Chiefs lead to 2-1. A strikeout would end the Top of the fifth. Game would go into a rain delay at the start of the bottom of the fifth. Cortes would throw a 1-2-3 inning in the fifth. Cody Satterwhite came in to pitch for Syracuse. Jake Cave would tie the game 2-2 with a home run to right. Donovan Solano would single but a strikeout would end the Top of the sixth. Brandon Snyder drew a one out walk, but a flyout and a strikeout would end the sixth. Cito Culver, replacing Tyler Wade who was called up during the game, hit a single with one out. A popout and a strikeout would end the Top of the seventh. De Aza would hit a single to leadoff the inning for Syracuse. Falu hit a bunt single and an error moved De Aza and Falu up to second and third. Kieboom hit a single that score De Aza and Falu to make it 4-2 Syracuse. Emmanuel Burriss hit a single to bring home Kieboom for a 5-2 lead. After a strikeout, the Railriders would go to Ben Heller. A lineout and a pickoff would end the inning. Ji-Man Choi would hit a single, then get forced out at second on a Clint Frazier grounder. Jake Cave would hit a single but a double play would end the Top of the eighth. Heller would throw a 1-2-3 eighth to get to the ninth. Austin Adams would come in to pitch for Syracuse. Mark Payton and Rodriguez would draw walks to lead off the top of the ninth. Adams would get the final three outs to get the save as the Chiefs took the first game of the three game set with a 5-2 victory over the Railriders.


News: Tyler Wade got his call to the Yankees during the game due to the Starlin Castro injury.
