Torres' Hot Night Propels Railriders

The Railriders started off a week long road trip as they traveled to Rochester for a three game series. It was Bryan Mitchell's turn in the rotation for the Railriders and for the Rochester Red Wings, it was Yohan Pino that got the start at Frontier Field. Gleyber Torres drew a two out walk but a strikeout would keep the Railriders off the board. Zack Granite would hit a leadoff single to center. Granite would steal second on the next batter and moved to third on a groundout. Tommy Field would bring home Granite on a sacrifice fly to right on a 1-0 Red Wings lead. Mitch Garver would hit a single to center but a flyout would keep it a 1-0 lead. Pino would throw a 1-2-3 second for the Red Wings to keep the one run lead. Mitchell would answer with a 1-2-3 inning of his own. Pino threw his second straight 1-2-3 for Rochester. Granite hit a one out single to right. Domingo German came in to pitch for the Railriders. JB Shuck hit a single, moving Granite to second. Granite moved to third on a flyout and would score on a wild pitch for a 2-0 Red Wings lead. A popout would end the inning. Gleyber Torres would hit a one out single but back to back strikeouts would end the Top of the fourth keeping the Railriders off the board. Matt Hague hit a single to center then Byung-Ho Park drew a walk but a popout and a groundout kept the Red Wings lead at 2-0. Pino threw another 1-2-3 fifth for the Red Wings. German threw a 1-2-3 of his own for the Railriders. Tyler Wade hit a one out single then Dustin Fowler drew a walk. Gleyber Torres then hit his first Triple-A home run, a three run shot to left center for a 3-2 Railriders lead. The Red Wings went to DJ Baxendale out of the bullpen. Tyler Austin then hit a double and got to third on a wild pitch. Clint Frazier drew a walk but a double play would end the Top of the sixth. Hague hit a two out single to center then ByungHo Park followed with a walk but a groundout would end the sixth and the Railriders would have a one run lead after six. Donovan Solano hit a leadoff single. After a popout, Castillo would reach on an error and Solano would advance to third. Tyler Wade would bring Solano on a sacrifice fly to right for a 4-2 lead. Dustin Fowler would hit a single to right and Castillo would go to third. Torres would continue his hot night with a single to center to score Castillo. Fowler would score on a throwing error for a 6-2 advantage. A strikeout would end the Top of the seventh. Engelb Vielma reached on an error to start off the bottom of the seventh, got to second on a groundout. JB Shuck then brought home Vielma on a single to right to cut the Railriders lead to 6-3. Back to back strikeouts by German would end the seventh. Baxendale would throw a 1-2-3 eighth for the Red Wings. German threw a 1-2-3 inning for the Railriders in the eighth to keep the three run lead. Alan Busenitz would come in to pitch the ninth for the Red Wings and would throw a 1-2-3 inning to keep the deficit at three. Ben Heller came in for the save in the ninth for the Railriders. He would throw a 1-2-3 ninth to get the save as the Railriders took down the Red Wings 6-3.

Thoughts on the game: Gleyber Torres had possibly one of his best games at the Triple-A level. He was 3 for 3 with a home run and an RBI single for four RBIs on the night. For five innings, it looked like the Railriders were going to have a tough night but Torres changed all that with a three run shot. For Rochester, despite the loss Yohan Pino had a good game on the mound, he only made mistake and it was a home run.
