Scranton Wins 6A Boys Subregional Championship

Scranton came into the playoffs as an underdog. Not many people expected the Knights to playing at the arena, let alone win a Subregional Title. Senior Dillon Lazdowsky and junior Oliver Almonte each had a team-high 13 points and freshman guard Tony Battaglia added 12 as Scranton defeated Williamsport 69-64 to win back-to-back District 2/4 Subregional Championships. "Being an underdog is nice, cause last year we had alot of pressure. We had a really good team and everyone expected us to win that game." said Scranton head coach Tony Battaglia. "I feel like we've been doubted all year. Coming out here and winning on a big stage to get a win, there's nothing better." said senior Dillon Lazdowsky. "We saw everyone picked against us, it was just a good feeling to get the win." said freshman guard Tony Battaglia. 
Williamsport started off the game with an 8-0 run. However, Scranton did not quit. They got back to back basket from Almonte but the Millionaires came back got a basket from Chris White, and five straight points from George Whaley to make it 15-4. The Knights cut the deficit to 15-9 at the end of the first quarter with five straight points from Jaheam Roberts and a three pointer from Battaglia. 
Scranton cut the lead down to five but back to back threes by Whaley and Thomas Takach got Williamsport up to an 11 point lead. Battaglia hit a three pointer and Lazdowsky hit a pair of free throws to make it a six point deficit. Everytime the Knights looked to cut the led down, the Millionaires answered until late in the second quarter. Down five before halftime, Donnie Laybourn and PJ Murphy scored back to back baskets to make it 32-31 as we headed to half.
Scranton took their first game of the game with a basket by Lazdowsky. Williamsport tied up the game with a free throw by Caleb Fausnaught. Almonte hit a pair of free throws to make it 35-33 Scranton then Battaglia hit a three pointer. It was a back and forth affair throughout the third quarter as the Knights led 47-44 at the end of the third. Scranton kept hold of their lead and cruised through the fourth to take a 69-64 victory over Williamsport to win the District 2/4 Subregional Championship.
