After a bit of a hiatus, Abington Heights returned to the District 2 5A Championship. The players on this team have watched previous teams play at the Mohegan Sun Arena and win multiple District Championships and this time, they made their dream come true as they defeated West Scranton 60-38 to win their first District 2 5A Championship since 2019. "It's great" Abington Heights forward Mason Fedor said. "Growing up watching them win Championships. It's great to finally win one for myself." Fedor continued. The program made it to the Championship in 2021 but were unable to play due to a COVID protocol. "This Championship is for those that were unable to play here in 2021." Comet guard Will Marion said. "It's feels great, we finally got it back. We lost a couple years in a row, it's great to get it back for our coaches and for those that were unable to play two years ago." said Abington Heights junior guard Ryan Nealon on bringing back the program's first District title since 2019.
Ryan Nealon led all scorers with 19 points, while Will Marion added 18 points and Mason Fedor had 14 for the Comets. For West Scranton, Evan Laybourn-Boddie had 11 points, Chris Ogden added nine points and Tristan Lee recorded eight points.
After a sluggish start to the game, Patrick Walsh hit a free throw then Chris Ogden hit a three pointer to give West Scranton the lead. After that, the Comets went on a 13-2 run, hitting 3 three pointers to make it 14-5 at the end of the first quarter.
The Comets hit shooting continued as Ryan Nealon hit a three pointer and Will Marion hit a basket to make it 19-5 and led 30-14 at halftime. Abington Heights cruised after halftime to take the District 2 5A Championship for the first time since 2019 with a 60-38 victory over West Scranton.
